Alexandre CASSIN settled into the winning rhythm

Junior Boys Singles Event

 

Top seed in the Junior Boys Singles Event at the European Youth Championships in Zagreb Alexandre CASSIN of France booked his place in the Round of 16 after straight games victory over Denis IVONIN of Russia.

 

Previously, CASSIN commenced his journey in the second round of the Event in a furious style. In straight games he beat Antonino AMATO of Italy.

 

“I felt every ball, but I did not play anything complicated. I tried to put on table one ball more than my adversary. I knew him and I study his game. He could be dangerous, but today I kept everything under control,” explained CASSIN.”I am not happy with my performance in the Team’s Event. It took me a while before I adjust to the venue. We worked very hard in past two months and I am sorry we did not meet the expectations in the first part of the Championships. I hope now it would be better, but still, it will me very difficult with challengers such as Darko JORGIC, Cristian PLETEA or Roman POLANSKI…”

 

In his half of the draw Ioannis SGOUROPOULOS of Greece beat Istvan MOLNAR of Hungary.

 

“I was not very happy with the draw. In the Team’s Event Istvan beat me. Now I improved my service game to avenge my defeat,” said SGOUROPOULOS.

 

In Round of 32 Greek player needed six games to overcame Andreas DILLING of Denmark.

 

To reach Round of 16 Cristian PLETEA of Romania beat Juler ROLLAND of France. In next round he will meet Carlos VEDRIEL who overcame Nils HONMEIER of Germany. Two matches went full distance; Nolan GIVONE of France was stretched to seven games against Gerrit ENGEMANN of Germany, Abdull YIGENLER needed also seven to beat Tomas KOTOWSKI of Poland.

 

In Round of 64 Tomas POLANSKY beat Portugal’s Paolo SILVA, Darko JORGIC overcame Veikka FLEMMING of Finland and Joe SEYFRIED overcame Lars POSCH of Switzerland to secure their place in the Third Round.

 

In close seven games duel Mathan SIMON of Izrael overcame Belgium’s Thibaut DARCIS.

 

“DARCIS was favorite, so the pressure was on him. I stayed calm and focused and just waited for my chance,” said SIMON, who lost in the next round against Irvin BARTRAND of France.

 

Darko JORGIC was finally pleased with his performance. 

 

“We failed to justified our position in Team’s Event. I was not playing good. Now I am trying to rise the level of my play to higher level.”

For the place in the Round of 16 he prevailed against Mate BRUCKNER of Hungary.
