SAMSONOV loses German Open to World champion

MA Long beat Byelorussian 4:1 in the final clash. Former individual European champion defeated CHUANG Chih-Yuan in the semifinal

 

Reigning World champion MA Long confirmed his class in the final of 2016 ITTF World Tour German Open (Super) in Berlin, beating triple European champion Vladimir SAMSONOV 4:1 (11:7, 11:6, 11:4, 10:12, 11:5). Top seed defeated all his rivals in straight games on his way to the final clash, counting his compatriot and actual Olympic champion ZHANG Jike in the semis. Byelorussian has enough reasons to be satisfied after all, bearing in mind that he eliminated Timo BOLL (quarter-final) and CHUANG Chih-Yuan (semifinal). SAMSONOV extended the final clash by saving two match balls in the fourth set, but top seed was brilliant in the fifth one.

 

Europeans have played one more final today. HAN Ying and Irene IVANCAN from Germany were leveled with JEON Jihee and YANG Haeun after first two sets of Women`s Doubles event, but Korean pair won 3:1.

 

Men`s Singles Semifinal: MA Long (China) – ZHANG Jike (China) 4:0 (11:7, 11:4, 11:7, 11:7), Vladimir SAMSONOV (Byelorussia) – CHUANG Chih-Yuan (Taiwan) 4:1 (11:6, 11:9, 7:11, 11:8, 11:3). Men`s Singles Final: MA Long (China) – Vladimir SAMSONOV (Byelorussia) 4:1 (11:7, 11:6, 11:4, 10:12, 11:5).

 

Women`s Singles Semifinal: WU Yang (China) – HU Limei (China) 4:0 (11:8, 11:9, 11:9, 11:7), Kasumi ISHIKAWA (Japan) – LEE Ho Ching (Hong Kong) 4:1 (11:7, 11:7, 11:7, 9:11, 11:9). Women`s Singles Final: WU Yang (China) – Kasumi ISHIKAWA (Japan) 4:1 (11:5, 11:7, 9:11, 11:8, 11:7).

 

Women`s Doubles Final: JEON Jihee / YANG Haeun (Korea) – HAN Ying / Irene IVANCAN (Germany) 3:1 (11:3, 8:11, 11:7, 11:7).
