Vladimir SAMSONOV defeats Timo BOLL to reach the German Open semi-final

Byelorussian won 4:0 (12:10, 12:10, 11:9, 11:6) and set up semi-final clash against CHUANG Chih-Yuan who beat Dimitrij OVTCHAROV

 

Two European titans met in the 2016 ITTF World Tour German Open (Super) in Berlin, as Vladimir SAMSONOV beat Timo BOLL 4:0 (12:10, 12:10, 11:9, 11:6) to secure semi-final encounter with CHUANG Chih Yuan. Taiwanese overcame Dimitrij OVTCHAROV in five games, to make his just second victory out of eight matches on ITTF events. SAMSONOV`s teammate from Orenburg and actual individual European champion defeated CHUANG in 2012 Olympic Games bronze showdown.

 

In the Round of 16 Yoshida KAII caused biggest upset against 5th seed and 2015 ITTF LIEBHERR European Championship runner-up Marcos FREITAS. Japanese won in five games.

 

In Women`s Singles event WU Yang (China) beat in straight games top seed Ai FUKUHARA. Semi final matches are: WU Yang – HU Limei (China), Kasumi ISHIKAWA (Japan) – LEE Ho Ching (Hong Kong).

 

Four exciting matches were seen in the both doubles events, as all four took full five games. German pair in Women`s event HAN Ying / Irene IVANCAN (Germany) prevailed against JIANG Huajun / TIE Yana (Hong Kong) to set up final clash with JEON Jihee / YANG Haeun (Korea). Alexey LIVENTSOV and Mikhail PAIKOV from Russia lost to HO Kwan Kit / TANG Peng (Hong Kong).

 

Men`s Singles Quarter Final: MA Long (China) – Joshida KAII (Japan) 4:0 (11:7, 11:7, 11:4, 12:10), ZHANG Jike (China) – FANG Bo (China) 4:1 (13:11, 11:8, 11:6, 8:11, 15:13), Vladimir SAMSONOV (Byelorussia)– Timo BOLL (Germany) 4:0 (12:10, 12:10, 11:9, 11:6), CHUANG Chih-Yuan (Taiwan) – Dimitrij OVTCHAROV (Germany) 4:1 (11:5, 9:11, 11:8, 11:2, 11:5)

Men`s Singles Semi Final (January 31st): MA Long (China) – FANG Bo (China) 10h50, Vladimir SAMSONOV (Byelorussia) – CHUANG Chih-Yuan (Taiwan) 11h40.
