Romania faced early departure

In the final of the Cadet Girls Teams Event at the European Championships in Bratislava, tomorrow, Russia will meet France. In penultimate stage Russia overcame Sweden, whilst France prevailed against Romania.

Russia won first two matches and then withstood a spirited comeback from Sweden to book its place in the final. Anastasia KOLISH and Maria TAYLAKOVA lost their doubles, before Stina KALLBERG leveled the score against TAYLAKOVA. In the decisive match Anastasia prevailed.

“I was under great pressure, but thanks to support from the teammates I won. It was very difficult match,” said KOLISH.

Romania’s Tania PLAIAN and Andreea DRAGOMAN also put France under pressure, but in this match it was Romania who made a lead. Leili MOSTAFAVI lost her opening match against DRAGOMAN, but she was at the top of the task in the decisive match against PLAIAN.

“This is my first team’s semi final. I was very nervous, especially after 2:2. The most important thing was the support that I receive from my tam,” said Leili.

In the quarterfinal of the girls event all “usual suspects” booked their ticket for the medal rostrum. Russia’s Anastasia KOLISH, Elina RUB and Maria TAYLAKOVA needed only three matches to overcame Belarus. Sweden’s Ellen HOLMSTEN and Stina KALLBERG also saved some energy for semis after 3:0 victory over Croatia. French team with Leili MOSTAFAVI and Lucie GAUTHIER prevailed against Poland.

Only in the match between Romania and Czech Republic, Andreea DRAGOMAN and Tania PLAIAN faced greater challenge. They lost their doubles match in five games, before Andreea DRAGOMAN prevailed in another full distance encounter against Zdena BLASKOVA. Zdena previously beat PLAIAN.
