MALANINA and CHERNORAY added another gold Russia’s record

In the final Russian girls beat Alina NIKITCHANKOVA and Hanna PATSEYEVA of Belarus

In the final of the Junior Girls Doubles Event at the European Youth Championships in Bratislava Maria MALANINA and Daria CHERNORAY of Russia clinched the title. In the final they overcame Alina NIKITCHANKOVA and Hanna PATSEYEVA of Belarus 3:2 (4, -9, 8, -3, 4).

“It was close match; our chances were 50:50. They know very well to play against defense, and that is one of our good points too. But at the end, we believed more we can win,” said MALANINA.

In the penultimate stage MALANINA and CHERNORAY overcame WAN Yuan and Lisa SAGER of Germany 3:2 (-7, -4, 9, 9, 4), after being two games to nil in reverse.

“We had a very bad start, unlike our adversary who attacked from a very first ball. After that we changed tactics, but above all, we changed our approach. We started to believe more in ourselves. We believed we could win “explained MALANINA.

The pairing is playing for a first time in doubles together in Bratislava.

In other semi final duel NIKITCHANKOVA and PATSEYEVA overcame Jennie WOLF of Germany and Anna IVANNIKOVA of Russia 3:1 (9, -4, 7, 8).

“We had to stay focused. They knew us very well. They are also very dangerous for our, attacker- defender combination,” said NIKITCHANKOVA.

PATSEYEVA agreed, but she added.

“Our adversaries were ready for us, but still, having this combination is very useful here.”
