Italy has consolation in silver

At the European Youth Championships in Bratislava, France won the title in Cadet Boys Teams Event. It is their eight title in young boys category in 58 editions of the Championships. In the final, France overcame Italy to regain the title won last year in Italy.

In 2013 in Ostrva Leonardo MUTTI lead the junior team of Italy on their triumph against France in the final of the European Championships. Two years latter his brother played in the cadet team and challenged France once again. This time last year’s champions defended their crown.

The duel between Europe’s no. 13 Lilian BARDET and no. 21 Carlo ROSSI concluded in favor of better ranked player. BARDET faced very aggressive adversary, but at the end Carlo failed to put him under severe pressure. Irvin BERTRAND, who is posted at the position no. two at the European rankings, needed one game more then his teammate to overcame Matteo MUTTI, Europe’s no 8.

In the doubles, Leo DE NODREST and Jules ROLLAND sealed the match in very effective way against Carlo ROSSI and Matteo MUTTI.

“I am much better player than the last year and the experience helped me this time, “ said BERTRAND.

Most important part was the good start of French team.

“Lilian gave us dream start. It is big different when you are 1:0 up, instead down. After his victory, everything was easier for us,” said Jules ROLLAND.

BARDET stated that he was under pressure at the beginning, but..

“As the match progressed I felt better and better. Leo and I already played against the same team of Italy in January this year at Hungary open and overcame them 3:2. We knew what to expect.”

Leo DE NODREST said the match against Russia was the most difficult.

“We won the close game. That was the biggest challenge at the tournament.”
