RUMGAY loses in the quarter-final

Scot was unique European among the best eight players at the 20th Commonwealth TT Championships

 

Penultimate day of the 20th Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships at Surat, India, brought just one quarter-final in the Men’s Singles Event of European representatives, but Gavin RUMGAY was stopped in his attempt to reach semi-final stage. Scot started by winning against Grover SUDHANSHU from India 4:2 (9:11, 11:5, 11:8, 11:9, 6:11, 11:9) in the Round of 16, but in the next round host Soumyajit GHOSH defeated him in straight games. Three Indian players and one Singaporean are continuing their way in Surat.

 

Three more representatives from Old Continent fought in the Round 16: Englishman Helshan WEERASINGHE was beaten by Harmeet DESAI after full seven games, his compatriot David MCBEATH was stopped by Indian Amalraj ANTHONY in six sets, while Marios YIANGOU from Cyprus had no any chance against host Sathiyan GNANASEKARAN.

 

Concerning Women’s Singles Event, HO Tin-Tin from England lost in the quarter-final from Manika BATRA (India) 4:1 (11:6, 11:6, 2:11, 11:7, 11:2). In the Round of 16, HO overcame host Divya DESHPANDE 4:2 (8:11, 11:6, 8:11, 11:6, 11:2, 12:10).
