TTCLM Round 1: Impressive comeback of UMMC

The 2016/17 TTCLM Round 1 was concluded by five tonight`s matches as all five belonged to the host teams: TTF LIEBHERR OCHSENHAUSEN – ROSKILDE BORDTENNIS BTK61 3:2 UMMC – KS UNIA AZS AWFiS GDANSK 3:2 BOGORIA GRODZISK MAZOWIECKI – TTC OSTRAVA 2016 3:0 FC SAARBRUCKEN TISCHTENNIS – G. V. HENNEBONT TT 3:0 CHARTRES ASTT – KST ENERGA-MANEKIN TORUN 3:1

 

Most exciting clash was held in Verknaya Pyshma where No. 3 seed UMMC beat No. 11 seed KS UNIA AZS AWFiS GDANSK 3:2 after an impressive comeback in Group B. Polish club led 2:0 as WANG Yang (World No. 49) and Kaii KONISHI (No. 46) defeated respectively Andrej GACINA (No. 23) and Alexander SHIBAEV (No. 26). Grigory VLASOV gave a new chance to his team mates beating former Eslov`s player Mattias OVERSJO in four games. GACINA leveled the score against KONISHI after four sets as Japanese had a decent lead in the latest one (8:4 and 9:7). Finally SHIBAEV secured victory to host side winning the ultimate fourth set against WANG by narrow margin (16:14): Russian missed four match-points in a row (10:9 – 13:12).

 

No. 15 seed ROSKILDE BORDTENNIS BTK61 extended No. 7 seed TTF LIEBHERR OCHSENHAUSEN to full distance at the Group A match held in Germany. Each host player won one point Simon GAUZY Yuto MURAMATSU and Hugo CALDERANO while ZHAI Yuija recorded two victories for Danish side. The 2009 TTCLM runner-up Ochsenhausen presented the youngest line-up in the opening round of 2016/17 season with one 19-year-old player (MURAMATSU) one 20-year-old (CALDERANO) and one 21-year-old (GAUZY).

 

BOGORIA GRODZISK MAZOWIECKI defeated TTC OSTRAVA 2016 3:0 in the Group C as Panagiotis GIONIS GAO Ning and Daniel GORAK overcame Aleksandar KARAKASEVIC CHIANG Hung-Chieh and Tomas TREGLER respectively. It could say that the opening encounter between two newcomers determined the whole match. Ostrava`s KARAKASEVIC had advantage after third set but host GIONIS won close fourth set to stay in the game. Greek controlled the fifth set from the beginning and brought first point to Bogoria.

 

In the other Group C game SAARBRUCKEN TISCHTENNIS was too strong for G. V. HENNEBONT TT. Patrick FRANZISKA prevaileg against CHEN Chien-An in four games of the opener Bojan TOKIC continued in same style against Liam PITCHFORD and finally Tiago APOLONIA overcame Kalinikos KREANGA in straight games. Former Borussia Dusseldorf`s player FRANZISKA debuted in Saarbrucken`s team in the TTCLM.

 

The 2013 TTCLM runner-up CHARTRES ASTT had successful start in Group D beating at home KTS ENERGA-MANEKIN TORUN 3:1. Par GERELL was man of the match as he defeated both Pavel SIRUCEK and Cazuo MATSUMOTO who was also beaten by Joao MONTEIRO. Tomasz KOTOWSKI provided unique point for guest team as he won his clash with Alexandre ROBINOT.
