Unique European team in the semi-final of the 2014 CG held in Scotstoun Sports Campus defeated India 3:1 to secure silver. World`s no. 59 Liam PITCHFORD brought two points to England playing two five-sets matches. In opening clash he overcame Sharath Kamal ACHANTA (both play in German Bundesliga) and beat Harmeet Rajul DESAI in decisive encounter. The last set took 32 points in total having many lead changes.

Singaporean team confirmed its class in the final. ZHAN Jian provided two victories against Paul DRINKHALL (3:2) and Andrew BAGGALEY (3:0). World`s no. 84 DRINKHALL led 2:1 in the opening game but ZHAN was brilliant in the last two sets. Singaporean was surprisingly beaten by Nigerian Quadri ARUNA in the semis.

Both team`s gold medals go to Singapore. Women`s team easily defeated Malaysia 3:0. It was expected from team which has two Top 10 players on ITTF World ranking list: FENG Tianwei (no. 4) and YU Mengyu (no. 10).
