Disappointment for Scotland in the Women’s Team event at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games with third place being the eventual finishing position in the group and thus no place in the main draw. However later on the second day of action Friday 25th July there was better news for the host nation; the Men’s Team comprising Craig HOWIESON Gavin RUMGAY and Sean DOHERY secured first position in their group and thus reserved a main draw place.
The fifth seeds having beaten Canada and Uganda on the opening day of action; they concluded their initial phase contests with victory over Tanzania.
First place for the sixth seeds and it was the same for the other leading teams on duty seven groups in the first phase of proceedings; it was top spot for all seven; not one defeat.
Singapore England India and Nigeria the respective top four seeds all completed their first phase matches in pole position as did the next three teams in the order of merit.
Scotland Australia and Wales all secured top spot in their groups.
Meanwhile second places and thus progress to the main draw went to Sri Lanka Barbados Northern Ireland Mauritius Canada Malaysia and New Zealand.
On Saturday 26th July the quarter-finals of the Men’s Team event will be played in addition to the last eight and semi-finals of the Women’s Team competition.
Singapore and Australia had already reserved their places in the main draw of the Women’s Team event by remaining unbeaten of one the first day of play.
England the third seeds completed their opening phase contests with an unblemished record and in pole position as did India and New Zealand the next in the pecking order. In addition to Canada second places went to Sri Lanka Guyana Trinidad and Tobago Nigeria and Wales.
