Speaking about upcoming Women`s ECL final against Berlin, Fenerbahce manager Gurhan YALDIZ said that good result in first leg (March 7th) might be decisive

Fenerbahce`s women table tennis team hopes that will join to their volleyball`s squad which conquered Europe two seasons ago. Six times TT champion of Turkey is preparing for its very first Women`s European Champions League final, against the 2012 winner Berlin Eastside. Viktoria PAVLOVICH & Co. won last two edition of ETTU Cup, but now they are faced with the biggest possible challenge.

“Of course I am satisfied from my team performance. We lost some matches after 2:0 lead in the group stage, but however we played half-final”, said Gurhan YALDIZ, manager of Fenerbahce TT club.

The club won an impressive 12 domestic trophies in last six seasons (league and cup winner in each year since 2008) adding two more on European level (ETTU Cup 2012, 2013). Recently they reached WECL final over Zamek Tarnobrzeg, their opponent in 2013 ETTU Cup final. Now set-ratio has decided after each side won 3:2 away match.

“My team has played very, very difficult matches in half-final. We won first leg very hard and we lost second our in İstanbul. I would like to explain that Polish club is unique one who beat us in Istanbul. Last season it was much easier in ETTU Cup final, but this time we played surprisingly difficult matches”.

Berlin Eastside played excellent this season, with four very good players (SHAN Xiaona, Kristin SILBEREISEN, Georgina POTA and Irene IVANCAN). German side beat Fenerbahce at home (3:2), playing in group stage, while Turkish champion was better at Ulker Sport Arena (3:1). Next time they will meet at Berlin, on March 7th (19h15 CET), in first final game. Viktoria PAVLOVICH, CHING I-Cheng, HU Melek and Elisabeta SAMARA are favorites as no. 1 seed, but Gurhan YALDIZ is careful:

“This is the final and nobody can predict the result. Final atmosphere is always different and difficult. We think we must get good result in first match and after that it will be easier to win the title in Istanbul”.

Regarding preparations to the finals, Fenerbahce`s manager said: “My players are always playing international tournaments with their national teams and I hope they will be in good form until first final match. Of course we will arrange one special camp period in Istanbul before that”.

YALDIZ stressed that his team has “super conditions and super atmosphere” on the games in Istanbul: “Fenerbahce Sport Club likes table tennis and all that we need is only a big training hall and I hope my club will arrange it in next season. I am really very satisfied with the place of table tennis department in big Fenerbahce’s family”.
