The opening round brought first upset already at the Cadet Boys teams Event at the European Youth Championships in Ostrava. Continental champions team of France lost their match against Slovenia. Darko JORGIC was a backbone of Slovenia’s success. He overcame Joe SEYFRIRD and Luca RIGAULT and added another point with the victory in doubles with Erik PAULIN.
“That opening win was crucial. We did not expect we could beat France. To be honest, we came here to try to beat Germany and to be third in the Group. However after this victory our aspirations are much higher,” said coach Matej PETAR.
JORGIC already clinched the title in doubles in Bratislava and he played in the semis of the Singles Event also in Slovakia. In Poland he was runner up in doubles.
“He is in splendid shape,” added PETAR. Slovenia beat Hungary in the second round duel. France recovered and overcame Germany. Slovenia is at the top of the Group, whilst France and Germany are listed at position two and three.
In Group B, there are more surprises. Austria emerged at the top at the standings. Thomas GRININGER and Andreas LEVENKO overcame Russia and Estonia. Russia falls to the second position since they beat Sweden in the first round. Hosts, Patrik KLOS and Tomas POLANSKY beat leading nation in the Group D to secure top spot at the end of the day. Also, Romania failed to justify their rankings and lost encounter against Denmark’s Andreas DILLING and Andreas LIND.
In the opening Rounds of the Cadet Girls Team’s Event Romania showed no weak points. Adina DIACONU and Andrea CLAPA beat Slovenia and Belarus to secure top position after day one. Greece failed to post single victory.
Audrey Zarif and Marie MIGOT of France showed no mercy in Group B. Croatia and Sweden lost against them. Russia with young, rising star Anastasia KOLISH safely closed their matches against Portugal and Serbia. Maria MALANINA was at the top of the game with five wins out of five matches today. German team with Julia KAIM, Lilli EISE and Jeannie WOLF overcame Hungary and Poland.
