The Malta Table Tennis Association now has a new president. Mr. Paul DAWSON was recently elected president. DAWSON (57 years old) originates from the UK, where he still travels regularly in his work as an Export Manager. He moved to Malta over 25 years ago. President DAWSON is married with three sons. His wife Grace is Maltese and his three sons were all born in Malta. Mr DAWSON changed nationality to Maltese in 1995.
New head of Malta TTA has been involved in table tennis most of his life, he was taught to play at the age of nine by his father but soon progressed and at the age of eleven was playing in the Leicester and District Table Tennis League. President DAWSON represented Leicester as a junior in the Midland league and played for several years in the Premier Division of the Leicester league before moving away at the age of 23.
“I also played for many years in the Hinckley, my hometown and Nuneaton, where I was born, Leagues. Then I played in Northamptonshire for a while before a serious arm injury kept me out of the game for several years,” explained Mr DAWSON.
After surgery Mr DAWSON modified his style of play and started playing again when he moved to Malta, he became an International Umpire, an ETTA level 2 coach and has been part of the MTTA committee for over 15 years. He still plays and is a former Malta Veterans Champion, the losing finalist in the same event only last year.
“Table Tennis is continually growing in Malta with many young players taking up the sport every year. Malta now features regularly on the ITTF Junior & Cadet World Circuit calendar and in future Malta hopes to hold other International events, after all sunny Malta is ideally situated in the Mediterranean for Europe and Africa and also has good air links to the Middle and Far East.”
