The smell of medals is in the air, so the battles at the 56th European Youth Championships becoming more and more fierce. In Cadet Boys Team’s Event only two teams recorded straight matches victories in Round of 16. Titleholders France, as well as Poland progressed to the next stage with clear record. 

France overcame Sweden. Joe SEYFRIED won in straight games against Omid KHOSBAKHT, but Lucas RIGULT faced difficulties against Adam BLOMQVIST. In the quarters they will play against Italy. Italians Daniele PINTO and Luca BRESSAN beat Belgium to secure place in next round. Only in doubles  Vincent VAN HOVEN and Nicolas MARCHAL managed to score.

Germany will not play for medal. Russia, silver medalists from last year Championships overcame them in thrilling five matches encounter. Nils HOHMEIER gave Germany dream start with the victory over Nikita YARUSHIN, but European player no. three Maxim CHAPLYGIN brought Russia back on tracks with straight games victory over Marcus HILKER. HOHMEIER and MEIERHOF went full distance against Russia’s pairings before Germany was once again in the lead. However in last two duels CHAPLYGIN and YARUSHIN shows no mercy.

Host nation was also stretched to full distance in match against Moldova. Patrik KLOS lost against Andrei PUTINIC 2:3 and that opened the door for Moldova’s success. Tomas POLANSKY beat Afanasi MUTCOGLO,  before Czech pairings again prevailed. PUTINIC held Moldova in game until the decisive match, when KLOS beat MUTCOGLO.

Aliaksandr KHANIN and Andrei LABANAU prevailed in duel against Danish players Andreas DILLING, Anders LIN and Michel DE VOSS. They will play against Slovenia’s Darko JORGIC and Erik PAULIN. Slovenia halted the progress of Turkey. Poland eliminated Hungary. Tomasz KOTOWSKI and Aleksander WERECKI were too strong for their adversaries. Romania’s Rares SIPOS and Alexandru MANOLE  prevailed in duel against Austria.
