Tibor HORVÁTH the longest-serving Secretary General of the MOATSZ has passed away

Hungarian Table Tennis Federation (MOATSZ) announced with deep sadness the passing of Tibor HORVÁTH at the age of 93 a key figure who played a significant role in Hungarian table tennis for many years. He was the longest-serving Secretary General of the MOATSZ from 1969 to 1996 and later continued his work as the federation’s financial director from 1996 to 2007.

Tibor HORVÁTH dedicated his entire life to the service of the sport. Although he did not reach the top as a player he worked with extraordinary commitment at the Helyipari SC where he mentored young talents and eventually led the club to the top division (NBI). His achievements and dedication soon earned him a position within the MOATSZ Youth Committee and after the resignation of Péter BIHARI he was elected Secretary General.

During his 27-year tenure as Secretary General he organized numerous domestic and international tournaments including European Championships and under his leadership Hungarian athletes won 4 World Championship gold medals and 21 European Championship gold medals.

Throughout his long years with the federation his tireless work expertise and connections were crucial to the development of Hungarian table tennis. He also contributed to the ITTF (International Table Tennis Federation) where he was honored with a gold ring in recognition of his outstanding work on various smaller projects.

His funeral will take place on Tuesday November 5 at 14:30 at the Farkasréti Cemetery in the Makovecz Hall.
