International table tennis cup final in Hungary again after ten years

The Budaörs Sport Club will be playing the return leg of the final of the Europe Cup at home marking the return of an international table tennis cup final to Hungary after ten years. The women’s table tennis team of the Budaörs Sport Club will celebrate its centenary next year and has been representing Budaörs City Hungarian table tennis and Hungarian sport in international cups of the ETTU for the past two decades.

The team has participated in over 200 European Cup matches and has won four medals in the past 19 continental cup competitions – two bronze and two silver. It is their goal to win their fifth international medal at the Budaörs Sports Hall on May 7 marking the end of the twentieth season.

The Hungarian team consisting of Georgina PÓTA Mária FAZEKAS and Helga DARI will face the Italian ASD Quattro Mori team which is considered the favorites for the Cup final. The final consists of two matches and the Italian team has a chance to win the cup if they defeat Budaörs during either the normal games or the golden sets. However the six-time Hungarian champion SH-ITB Budaörsi Sport Club can become the European Cup winner with a 3:0 or 3:1 victory or even if they win 3:2 and subsequently outperform their opponents in the golden sets.

The day of the final will be a celebration for Budaörs Sport Club as the leaders of the club have invited all the players who have contributed to this unique success story over the past twenty years. Reaching the final is also a success for the entire Hungarian table tennis sport as the Budaörs Sport Club conceptually consists only of Hungarian players.
