First time Champion LEVENKO defeated club mate KOLODZIEJCZYK in Wels

There was an all-Wels final at the Austrian championships in Wels after Maciej KOLODZIEJCZYK knocked out the defending champion Daniel HABESOHN 4-0 in the semifinals. In the final Andreas LEVENKO defeated the Felbermayr Wels youngster 4-1 and won his first championship title. Runner-up KOLODZIEJCZYK won mixed gold with Anastasia STERNER. HABESOHN had previously fixed the double title with his brother Mathias. In the women’s category LIU Yuan beat Karoline MISCHEK after a dramatic seven-games marathon and turned a 1-3 into a 4-3 on the way to her third title. MISCHEK crowned herself in women’s doubles with Ines DIENDORFER.

Maciej KOLODZIEJCZYK (No. 6) delivered the big surprise in the semi-finals: The U21 European Championship medalist eliminated defending champion Daniel HABESOHN with a smooth 4-0 win. Before HABESOHN has won the doubles final by 3-2.

“I already made a wrong step in the doubles final which brought my hip problems back to light. That’s why I played practically motionless. But I’m happy that I managed to win the title in doubles with my brother Mathias. Now we have gone through all the constellations. I’ve already won with Dominik Mathias also with Dominik and now I’ve been able to win gold with Mathias ” explained the Mühlhausen legionnaire.

Andreas Levenko then made the purely Wels final perfect by beating Alexander CHEN 4-1. In this the Austria Top 12 champion set the pace took a 3-0 lead and made his first title win perfect with a 4-1 victory. Maciej Kolodziejczyk had previously won in the mixed doubles: The Felbermayr Wels youngster and Anastasia STERNER dethroned the defending champions Sofia Lu chen/Alexander Chen by 3-2 after turning around a 1-2.

In the women’s competition LIU Yuan became the clear favorite after Sofia POLCANOVA had to withdraw due to illness. But the Austria Top 12 winner faltered in the final and had to catch up against last year’s runner-up Karoline MISCHEK (No. 3) from being down by 1-3. LIU Yuan won her third title with three impressive games 11-1 11-8 and 11-4. In the semifinals YUAN had beaten team newcomer Anastasia STERNER (No. 5) after four tight sets MISCHEK celebrated a tough 4-2 against Amelie SOLJA after being down by 1-2. In the doubles final there was a reunion: MISCHEK and Linz AG Froschberg club mate Ines DIENDORFER beat Elena PÖLL/Amelie SOLJA 3-0 just like in 2022.
