The title of Slovenian National Champions is the most beautiful gift for the 5th anniversary of ŠD SU

Exactly five years ago on May 17 2017 a unique sports story began. The story of enthusiastic fans of table tennis and sports in general led by Uroš SLATINŠEK founded the Sport club SU Novo mesto and persistently followed the vision and goals from year to year. And in this short club history they managed to win the first Cup title and National champions title on Saturday at the Livada Sports Center.

Fraternal alliance Uroš and Jure SLATINŠEK Jožko and Mitja OMERZEL and Domen ZUPANČIČ were also better than NTK Kema Murexin PUCONCI in the second match of the finals of this year’s 1st Slovenian Table Tennis League and after more than two hours of the final showdown fans rejoice at the historic title of the best in the country.

It was 5: 1 in the first match 5: 2 in the second and it was not easy to win in any of the final matches. But the SU players confirmed their good shape they already showed in the regular part of the league competition and knew how to stay focused at key moments. The young Jožko OMERZEL lost both matches but  SLATINŠEK brothers won all the other matches – Jure two and Uroš three – also the decisive match against the best player of the Puconci team Tomaž PELCAR. In front of the home fans the citizens of Novo mesto adorned with laurel wreaths and to the sounds of Golica song played by the music group Lenarti deservedly raised the trophy handed to them by the president of NTZS Marjan HRIBAR.

“I still do not fully belive what we have achieved in such a short time even after two days. Congratulations come from everywhere even from abroad. I would like to emphasize that this success is due to the work of the whole club behind which stand many heartfelt people. I would like to thank each and every one of them for their unforgettable success “says Uroš SLATINŠEK.

Uroš Slatinšek finished this season undefeated. He played a total of 53 matches and won every match. Undefeated he won the award for the most useful player of the sesone. It was handed over to him by the former National coach of the Slovenian national team Bojan RAK.

“After Saturday’s euphoria over the victory when we added the title of National Champions to the title of Cup Champions a feeling of satisfaction and pride remained. We reaffirmed that five years ago we chose the right path a path based on the right foundations of sport and values that promote integrated development. This success also gives us additional energy and motivation to continue the planned path “emphasizes the president of ŠD SU Sajda SLATINŠEK and adds:” Thank you for all the support and help to all members of ŠDSU sponsors and the Municipality of Novo mesto. Without you we wouldn’t be where we are. At the very top! ”
