Veronika MATIUNINA led Ukraine to the quarterfinals

In the quarterfinal of the Under 19 Girl’s Teams Event Romania will play against Croatia Germany will meet Czech Republic Poland will play against Ukraine and Sweden will meet France.

Top seeded Romania showed no weakness in the match of the Round 16 against Slovenia. In straight matches Ioana SINGEORZAN Elena ZAHARIA and Liciana MOTROFAN prevailed against Sara TOKIC Enya MOLTARA and Polona HORVAT.

“It was easy match Only Ioana was challenged in the duel against top Slovenia’s player Sara TOKIC. Nevertheless we are happy that we won this one and we are already focused on the next one. We are here to win the gold and so far everything is going as we expected ” said ZAHARIA.

Their next adversary team of Croatia also concluded the Round 16 duel in straight matches. They overcame Slovakia. Zrinka REBIC beat Dominika WILTSCHKOVA Hana ARAPOVIC overcame Adriana ILLASOVA whilst Bruna BOROVEC prevailed against Ema CINCUROVA.

“I am very pleased with the way we played. I never thought it will be easy as it was. Zrinka’s victory in the opening phase of the match gave us good push forward ” said ARAPOVIC.

Germany also saved some energy after quick 3:0 win over Belgium. European cadet champion from last year Annett KAUFMANN overcame Sara DEVOS to give Germany dream start. Sophia KLEE and Mia GRIESEL overcome Julie VAN HAUWAERT and Eloise DUVIVER to follow her tracks.

“The fact that we won all our individual matches 3:0 shows how focused we were. We are very happy that we reached the quarters in this style it gives us self confidence ” said Sophia KLEE.

Sweden overcame England in straight matches. Matilda HANSSON prevailed against Mari BALDWIN Rebecca MUSKANTOR beat Jasmin WONG and Leah TVEIT MUSCANTOR overcame Anaya PATEL.

“It was very good match. Everyone did a good job. We stayed focused from the beginning until the end. Matilda’s win gave us good confidence ” said Leah TVEIT MUSCANTOR.

Poland carried on the trend of fast matches. They overcame Spain. Zuzanna WIELGOS overcame Silvia COLL Wiktoria WROBEL beat Ainhoa CRISTOBAL and Anna BRZYSKA accounted for Eugenia SASTRE.

“The match was much harder than the results predicts. Two opening matches went full distance and could finish either way. We proved we were better in the closing stage when it meters ” said Anna BRZYSKA.

Serbia failed to produce the victory over Czech Republic after thrilling two hours of play. Reka BEZEG beat Helena SOMMEROVA at the beginning but after that Czech Republic changed the course of the match. Klara HRABICOVA overcame Radmila TOMINJIAK and BEZEG in the last duel. On position no. three Anna KLEMPEREROVA beat Dusica TODOROVIC.

“I am very satisfied with the performance of the girls. They did a great job in the very difficult match. Our goal was to reach the quarters and now we are under less pressure. Our main strength is the equal level of all players however HRABICOVA stands up today with two wins and that was crucial ” said Jaroslaw MIKESKA.

Veronika MATIUNINA were the back bone of Ukraine’s success in the match h against Lithuania. She won both her matches against Emilia and Kornelia RILISYTE. Ioalanta was stretched to full distance in the middle in the match against Laura ABRAVICIUTE whilst Kornelia won the only point for Lithuania in the match against Alina VYDRUCHENKO.

“It was very hard for us we fought very hard. The crucial moment was Ioalnta’s win in third match. She was down 6:10 in fifth game and she recovered to win the decisive game 15:13. That was incredible win ” said MATIUNINA.

Charlotte LUTZ led team of France to the victory over Portugal. LUTZ overcame Matilde PINTO and Ines MATOS WHILST Agathe AVEZOU overcame Patricia SANTOS. Ines beat Lucie MOBAREK to secure one point for Portugal.

The fastest match in the Round of 16 in Under 15 Girl’s Teams Event was the duel between Turkiye and Slovakia. Turkiye moved forward to meet Poland. Polish team overcame Moldova. Top seeds Romania overcame Spain and they will play against Ukraine for the place in the semi final. Ukraine overcame Czech Republic. Germany beat Lithuania Portugal overcame Israel. Hungary prevailed against Croatia.
