Timo BOLL vs. Darko JORGIC clash for the title

2020 CCB Europe Top 16 Cup Montreux February 8-9

On his quest for the seventh title Timo BOLL of Germany successfully overcame a penultimate hurdle and reached the final of the 2020 CCB Europe Top 16 Cup in Montreux. He will meet Darko Jorgic of Slovenia who is playing his first ever Top 16 Cup.

In the semifinal Robert GARDOS of Austria could not halted Timo BOLL 1:4 (10:12 8:11 11:7 6:11 5:11). Austrian put Timo under severe pressure winning a lot of points but at the end it was BOLL who was winning the games.

“That is the secret of table tennis winning the small and easy points. That is my style to be precise. GARDOS put me under pressure usually I do not feel good by playing those “fishing” points but today I did not have much problem ” said BOLL.

Darko JORGIC beat Croatia’s Tomislav PUCAR in five games (4:11 11:1 13:11 15:13 11:8). Players know each other very well but still there was a surprise in the closet for JORGIC at the beginning.

“I did not expect he will play that way. He surprised me with his tactics; Tomislav changed his game. I did not manage to respond instantly so I made a lot of mistakes in the opening game and lost it. Then I adjusted my game and start winning. I forced PUCAR into mistakes and kept my head cold in crucial moments. The third and fourth game were very important. I was afraid to let him prolong the match ” said JORGIC.
