Latvia hots “Riga City Council’s Youth Cup 2020”

 

 “Riga City Council’s Youth Cup 2020” the prestigious international table tennis competition for young participants will be held from February 14th to 16th in Riga. The cup will take place in Oskars Kalpaks Riga Folk Art Primary School in Riga Skrindu Street 1.

 

More than 350 young players from 17 countries representing England Azerbaijan Belarus Estonia India Iceland Italy Israel Russia Latvia Lithuania Moldova Norway Poland Ukraine Uzbekistan and Sweden will compete for the prize medals.

 

“I am glad that every year we see the level of the competition growing in terms of their skills and the number of participants. Young players from China were invited as well though they will not be able to come due to the measures taken to limit coronavirus. However it does not mean less competition for our young table-tennis players. The Latvian team expects successful results by Sabina MUSAJEVA and Daniels KOGANS who study at “Rīdzene” sports school and were awarded medals the previous year. We would be happy to see great scores by Franciska LINIŅA Artūrs SPALIS and Deniss VASIĻJEVS too ” says Ina JOZEPSONE President of Table Tennis Federation of Latvia.

 

For the Latvian youth „Riga City Council’s Cup 2020” is the most important international event in table tennis supported continuously by Riga City Council allowing the young athletes to play with competitors from different countries around the world.

 

Internet live stream will be available on sites www.lgtf.lv and www.galdateniss.lv and the records of the final games will be available on Sunday at www.sportacentrs.com.

 

Last year among representatives from 13 countries Sabina MUSAJEVA the Latvian Champion of 2018 in women singles won the silver medal while Daniels KOGANS won the shared third place. In total score the cup was won by the Ukrainian team followed by Warmia-Masuria province team in the second place and the players from Grodno Belarus in the third place. In total score team of Latvian representatives gained the seventh place.
