TTCLM Round 1: Walter Wels upsets Roskilde

The 2019/20 Table Tennis Champions League Men Round 1

 

Four out of eight 2019/20 TTCLM Round 1 games held tonight September 12th were successful for three visiting sides: Leka Enea TDM – Post SV Muhlhausen 0:3 TTC Ostrava 2016 – TTSC UMMC 0:3 Roskilde Bordtennis BTK61 – SPG Walter Wels 2:3 Saarbrucken TT – Ping Pong Club Villeneuvois 3:0.

 

Austrian Walter Wels upset no. 4 seed Roskilde thanks to Korean KANG Dongsoo who beat both Bojan TOKIC and ZHAI Yujia. Four out of five encounters have been extended to full distance: ZHAI vs. Frane KOJIC 3:2 Michael MAZE vs. Adam SZUDI 3:2 Bojan TOKIC vs. Frane KOJIC 2:3 and ZHAI vs. KANG 2:3. Korean paved the way to Walter Wels’ victory by winning the opener against TOKIC in straight games.

 

Two TTCLM debutants were beaten by strong German teams in straight matches: Leka Enea TDM – Post SV Muhlhausen 0:3 Saarbrucken TT – Ping Pong Club Villeneuvois 3:0. Actual TTCLM runner-up UMMC of Verkhnaya Pyshma had an easy job in Czech Republic as they lost just one set in total: Ondrej BAJGER – Aleksandr SHIBAEV 1:3 Felipe OLIVARES – Jonathan GROTH 0:3 Šimon BELIK – Andrej GACINA 0:3.
