Kay STUMPER clinched title in Noordwijk

2019 Europe Youth Top-10

Before the start of the last round in the Junior Boys Event at the 2019 Europe Youth Top-10 in Noordwijk four players were possible winners of the event. But in only 24 minutes Kay STUMPER took away all doubts. He beat Csaba ANDRAS of Hungary in straight games to secure the title. Samuel KULCZYCKI of Poland finished second and surprisingly Lilian BARDET of France progressed to the third position.

Kay STUMPER came in Netherlands as a third seed.

“I did not think I could win the tournament but I had a luck at the beginning. I played the opening round match against Lode HULSHOF and that was the less difficult one. How hard it was at the beginning you can see by the results Vincent PICARD lost to Dorian ZHENG and

Samuel KULCZYCKI was beaten by Lilian BARDET I had the opportunity to adjust to the venue ” said Kay.

However good luck did not last for long in the third match of the day he was beaten by the Belgium’s Adrien RASSENFOSSE.

“That was a really hard one. I lost it 9-11 in decisive game. I could not sleep that night. It haunted me. On the second day of the play in two matches I was 1-2 in reverse against Lilian BARDET and Dorian ZHENG but I recovered in both occasions. I was forced to change my service to play less aggressive to change tactics. It worked..”

At the beginning of the third day Kay beat Samuel KULCZYCKI but then lost to Vincent PICARD and sealed the day with the victory over Csaba ANDRAS.

“Despite the defeat I had a good feeling. I knew I could win last match.”
