Women’s Singles no.1 seed ZHU Yuling beat Luxembourg’s NI Xia Lian in straight games as Germany HAN Ying did likewise against host nation’s LIU Jia.

 

China’s QIAN Tianyi 19-year-old upset her compatriot no.2 seed LIU Shiwen after full seven games. QIAN continues her rise after recent impressive jump on the ITTF world ranking from no.149 to no.71.

 

Тimo BOLL and Patrick FRANZISKA beat Benedikt DUDA and QIU Dang in all-German opening round clash of Men’s Doubles in spite of being two games down – 3:2 (10:12 8:11 13:11 11:4 11:9). They will meet in the quarter-finals Jakub DIYAS (Poland) and Cedric NUYTINCK (Belgium) who eliminated China’s FAN Zhendong and WANG Chuqin in straight games.

 

Top seed in the Women’s Doubles event Japan’s Miyuu KIHARA and Miyu NAGASAKI were stretched to full distance by Romania ’s Daniela MONTEIRO DODEAN and Elizabeta SAMARA.

 

Opening round of Mixed Doubles saw surprising victory of Belarus pair Aliaksandr KHANIN / Daria TRIGOLOS who upset no.2 seed Chinese Taipei’s LIN Yun-Ju / CHEN I-Ching in straight games.
