Linz into ECLW semi-finals after win over Metz

ECLW quarter-finals Leg 2: Linz AG Froschberg – Metz TT 3:2 (1st leg 3:2)

 

Third time in last four years Linz AG Froschberg reached ECLW semi-finals after win over Metz TT. Second quarter-final leg held today (Feb 10) in Linz was extended to full distance but once again two-time ECLW champion beat actual ETTU Cup winner 3:2.

 

Hong Kong’s SOO Wai Yam Minnie won decisive fifth encounter in both legs. Two weeks ago 20-year-old beat Adina DIACONU while today she prevailed against Carole GRUNDISCH.

 

French club managed to extend the clash to the fifth game thanks to DING Yaping who defeated both SOO Wai Yam Minnie and Sofia POLCANOVA. The best ranked European player on the ITTF World ranking list POLCANOVA (world no. 17) beat Carole GRUNDISCH in the opener.

 

Linda BERGSTRÖM overcame Pauline CHASSELIN after full five games of the third match to provide 2-1 lead for the host side. It was the turning point of the match.
