Bernadette SZOCS defends her throne in furious style

CCB Europe Top 16 Cup in Montreux

In straight games Bernadette SZOCS overcame another hurdle on her way to defend the title at the CCB Europe Top 16 Cup in Montreux. In the quarterfinal Romania’s player beat Slovakia’s Barbora BALAZOVA (7:11 8:11 5:11 9:11).

“I had very difficult first match here; I had problems with the balls. Now I adjusted my game and I regained my confidence. BALAZOVA has very powerful game and when I saw that she beat Britt in straight games in Round of 16 I was worried. I expected much closer match and bigger problem. However my tactics allowed me to keep the game under control ” said SZOCS.

Dimitrij OVTCHAROV of Germany needed five games to beat Dane Jonathan GROTH (9:11 11:4 9:11 8:11 2:11). He started well but in the second game GROTH took the control of the match.

“He changed the service game. I needed time to adjust but even when I did it was difficult to keep the ball in the game. Eventually my change of tactics paid off and I managed to open the game. I was confident ” said OVTCHAROV.

Tomorrow in semi final he will meet Timo BOLL.

“I fall on the rankings and that is the price I have to pay. We will play against each other in the semis already. No meter the round we will meet that is the match that keeps me in the game and gives me the strength to work hard. Regardless the outcome of the tomorrow’s match I looking forward our duel.”
