Liebherr 2019 ITTF World Table Tennis Championships Budapest April 21-28

Portugal’s player Marcos FREITAS faces hard task to repeat his best result at the World Championships bearing in mind that his draw projection leads him to possible Round of 32 clash against one of the strongest medal contenders Tomokazu HARIMOTO of Japan seed no. 4. However actual no. 23 seed is well prepared and motivated to show his best at the Liebherr 2019 ITTF World Table Tennis Championships Budapest April 21-28.

“My shape is good I have no injuries and I have done a good preparation camp in Sweden. I am looking forward to play in Budapest and do my final preparations for the singles event. At this moment I’m not thinking about any position I just want to start well and play game by game. I just try to focus on myself” stated Fakel-Gazprom player the 2015 European Championships runner-up.

The 31-year-old reached twice Round 4 at the World Championships. In 2013 Paris he managed to eliminate three Asian players on his way to the best 16 where he was beaten by then top seeded XU Xin from China. Two years ago in Dusseldorf he lost at same stage to Timo BOLL.

Speaking about favourites FREITAS stated:

“It’s very hard to say because there are many top players but if I had to choose two I would say MA Long and FAN Zhengdong. I think some European players have the chance to win medals we have good level and it’s not a surprise if it happens.”
