by Ian Marshall

Hungary’s Alexa Szvitacs a familiar face on the international scene from 2006 to 2017 is currently suffering from an illness with life threatening complications.

She has lost her left forearm and all her toes.

Present at the World Junior Championships in Cairo in 2006 Alexa became a familiar face on the ITTF World Junior Circuit. In 2007 she competed in the Spanish Junior and Cadet Open in Platja d’Aro before the following year making three appearances. She played in Germany Egypt and Poland.

Notably in early 2012 she was a member of a group of Hungarian players who visited Tehran the capital of Iran to compete in Fajr Cup the visit being most appreciated by the hosts.

Later she was in action on home soil in 2014 in Szombathely at the Hungarian Open before being present once again when the tournament moved Budapest. Furthermore in 2015 she played in the Universiade in Gwangju Korea Republic before in 2017 once again being on duty at the Hungarian Open.

Treatments are a huge financial burden for Alexa and her family; Hungarian clubs and players have started fundraising and welcome support from the international community.

An account has been created for donations which go directly to Alexa.
