WECL quarter-finals no. 2: Three times 3:0 for the hosts

Tarnobrzeg managed to surpass Cartagena`s 3:0 (9:4) first leg victory. Berlin and Szekszard also won their games

KTS SIARKA ZOT TARNOBRZEG SZEKSZARD AC and TTC BERLIN EASTSIDE reached the 2016/17 ECLW semi-finals as they won 3:0 their returning quarter-final duels. Polish champion managed to surpass UCAM Cartagena`s big advantage from Spain (3:0 9:4) losing just two sets tonight while reigning champion and the best Hungarian club just confirmed their supremacy from the first clashes against TT SAINT QUENTIN and ALCL GRAND-QUEVILLY respectively.

Super defensive line-up of Tarnobrzeg recorded a spectacular victory against Spanish team in spite of poor start of HAN Ying against Tetyana BILENKO. Guest led 2:0 after just few minutes (11:5 11:2) what meant that Cartagena needs just three more sets in the entire clash. But HAN responded by three sets in a row.

Former individual European champion Viktoria PAVLOVICH showed her season`s best play so far defeating Iulia NECULA in straight games and LI Qian did the same against Matilda EKHOLM.

Encounter between World No. 33 LI and World No. 32 EKHOLM (few days ago entered European top 10 ranking list) was very tense as all three games have been decided by narrow margin. Host saved two set balls in the opener (8:6 8:10 12:10) having open way to 2-0 at the end of the second set – 10:7. But LI missed all three consecutive set-balls and soon saved four in a row (from 10:11 to 13:14). After many upside downs on both sides Tarnobrzeg`s player reached that set (16:14).

Hungarian Szekszard will play its very first ECLW semi-final after new victory against Saint Quentin. Host players won their encounters in four games. Dora MADARASZ recorded one more important win against Daniela DODEAN MONTEIRO in the second match to imrpove her individual score on 3-0 in the quarter-final stage. Unexpectedly Sant Quentin`s ZENG Jian has 0-3.

Reigning champion and triple ECLW winner Berlin confirmed its class against Grand-Quevilly. Runner-up of the recent 2017 ITTF Europe Top 16 Cup Petrissa SOLJA wasn’t able to compete because of an injury which she suffered in Antibes but Yui HAMAMOTO Georgina POTA and SHAN Xiaona did their job against French side.
