Saarbrücken will host LIEBHERR 2016 Men’s World Cup

The spectators’ interest in table tennis in the region is enormous ” DTTB-President Michael GEIGER said

For the first time Saarbrücken will be the host for the LIEBHERR 2016 Men’s World Cup. From 1 to 3 October Saturday to Monday the 20 best male players in the world will meet at Saarlandhalle to play for the prestigious title a high prize money and a lot of world ranking points.

“The spectators’ interest in table tennis in the region is enormous ” DTTB-President Michael Geiger says. “We hope the tournament to be sold out on all 3 days”. He adds: “The tournament starts on a Saturday and the Monday ‘German Unity Day’ is a public holiday all over the country so German table tennis fans can easily visit the 3-days table tennis festival. It was long ago since we had the last top event in this table tennis affine region”.

In 2003 Saarbrücken hosted the last top event the Europe Top 12. Back then Timo BOLL and Jie SCHÖPP managed the double success in the European ranking tournament for the first time. The Saarlandhalle is thus a historically good place for the table tennis from the host’s point of view.

Next to the Germans the province Saarland of which Saarbrücken is the capital is neighbouring France and Luxemburg and even not too far away from Belgium too.

“I look forward to this high-profile event at which we will certainly experience high-class and exciting matches in the Saarlandhalle. The Saarland will prove worthy host ” says Saarland Minister of the Interior Klaus BOUILLON who had personally supported Saarbrücken as the host city.
