ECLW Round 4: Top seed plays in Saint-Quentin

All four matches of Round 4 will be held this Friday and Saturday giving a clearer picture about chances for the quarter-final stage

 

The ECLW Round 4 comes this Friday and Saturday with one game from each of four groups: Saint Quentin –Berlin (Group A Nov 27 19:30 CET) UCAM Cartagena –STRÖCK (Group B Nov 28 11:00 CET) Postas – Fenerbahce (Group C Nov 27 16:00 CET) and Lille – Zamek (Group D Nov 27 19:00 CET).

 

Two times ECLW champion and top seed Berlin Eastside (2-0 score) traveled to France to meet Saint-Quentin (1-1). In the first encounter German side won at home 3:1 as SHAN Xiaona got two points.

 

„We are looking forward to meeting Berlin Eastside at home although the tragic events in Paris are still in everybody’s mind” stressed Jean-Louis POLARD TTSQ Manager and Vice President. „The German team is the best one no doubt out of the 37 teams which compete in the European Champions League Women and the ETTU Cup. With three players in the European Top 10 ranking (N°2 N°3 and N°9 in November 2015) coach Irina PALINA and President Alexander TEICHMANN feel secure. Moreover young Petrissa SOLJA has shaken the table tennis world with her bronze medal at the World Cup beating Japanese World N°4 and Singaporean World N°6. The public in Saint-Quentin should enjoy a superb match on Friday evening whatever the result will be.”

 

All three Group B teams has 1-1 score each and this Saturday Cartagena hosts STROCK who won 3:0 first match at Schwechat. WSA Women Head Coach Neven CEGNAR emphasizes importance of this clash:

 

„Despite our 3:0 win in the first match we are aware that they showed their real strength against Szekszard when they scored important victory playing in their best line-up. Now they play in front of their fans hence they must be considered as favorites no matter how our team will look like. We will give our best bearing in mind that we must win minimum one of the remaining two games to secure probably knock-out stage.”

 

Defending ECLW champion plays in Hungary this Friday fighting for its second victory in Group C: Postas (0-2) – Fenerbahce (1-1). Host side needs win to improve chances for the quarter-final as club’s President Rostás GÁBOR stated:

 

„It is a great honor to host the title holder team Fenerbahce in Budapest in our hall. However we will do our best led by LI Jiao to reach the quarter-finals. Although the favorite of match is our opponent our players are waiting for Friday’s match in good form.”

 

Finally in Group D the winner in the upcoming duel will have significantly better chance to reach next stage: Lille (1-1) – Zamek (1-1). YANG Xiaoxin was unsolvable problem for Polish champion in the first game held in Poland when French club won 3:1.
