This weekend, the city of Burgos, Spain, is hosting Stage 1 of the Europe Cup Women 2024. Teams in four groups are battling fiercely for a coveted spot in the next stage of the competition. The host city for Stage 2 will be announced on Sunday, following the conclusion of Stage 1 in both the Champions League and the Europe Cup. All four groups will compete at a single venue in the next phase. In Group A, Hungary’s Győri AC finished Day 1 with a victory over Poland’s KS Wamet Dobry Wiązar Dąbcze and a loss to CP Lyssois Lille Métropole. Both matches were decided in straight games. Tomorrow’s match is the last chance for the Polish side to attempt qualification for the next stage, but facing the French lineup of Filippa BERGAND, Shuohan MEN, and Margo DEGRAEF will be a very difficult task. In Group B, Turkey’s Fenerbahçe Sports Club and Poland’s Fibrain KU AZS Politechnika Rzeszów secured wins in the opening round. In Group C, the standings are led by Poland’s Bebetto AZS UJD Częstochowa and Spain’s Son Cladera TTC – Mallorca, each with one win. In Group D, Spain’s GDCS Juncal – Universidad de Burgos and France’s Alliance Nîmes Montpellier TT finished the day unbeaten.
