European Champion Dang QIU left his mark on the German Championships in Nuremberg as he did in Saarbrücken last year. The world number nine was the first player to successfully defend his singles title since Timo BOLL announced his retirement from national events four years ago. With his sixth successive victory in doubles with his partner Benedikt DUDA QIU even advanced to the “man of the weekend”. In the women’s singles Sabine WINTER third at the Munich European Championships outshone the competition despite the teenage generation that was pushing forward. The 30-year-old repeated her singles success from 2022. WINTER also won gold in doubles with her partner Sophia KLEE who is eleven years younger and set a new record with her seventh title in this competition which she had previously shared with Nicole STRUSE. Like a year ago KLEE’S Bundesliga clubmate Yuan WAN and Cedric MEISSNER secured the title in the mixed event. Qiu confirmed his status as Germany’s number one in the world rankings in absence of his national team colleagues Timo BOLL and Dimitrij OVTCHAROV. Patrick FRANZISKA is still waiting for his first national singles title after his 2-4 defeat in the final against 26-year-old QIU. “It was absolutely the expected difficult match in the final. Even after I took the lead Patrick kept coming back and it was close again ” said Dang QIU. “In the sixth game I started 5-0 at the end it’s 7-6 again – except for the second they were all close games.” In the women’s events young talents dominated the action after the cancellations of top players Ying HAN Xiaona SHAN and Nina MITTELHAM apart from WINTER. The 16-year-old European Youth Champion Annett KAUFMANN was seeded first and reached the final where Sabine WINTER did not give her much of a chance in a 4-0 defeat. “I didn’t expect a 4-0 win. I had hoped that I could keep the match close. I’m incredibly happy that I was able to defend this title ” says WINTER. Sophia KLEE’S entry into the semi-finals confirmed the strong impression of the young players. The 13-year-old talents Josephina NEUMANN and Koharu ITAGAKI made history as the youngest medallists ever by surprisingly advancing to the doubles final. TAN Wenling (CIATT Prato) and Leonardo MUTTI (Aeronautica Militare) are the winners of the singles titles  of the Italian Championships which took place for the first time in Sardegna. At PalaPirastu in Cagliari TAN won the second gold medal 15 year after the first one. In the finals she beat 4-3 her clubmate Chiara COLANTONI. Bronze medalists were Nikoleta STEFANOVA (CIATT Prato) and Debora VIVARELLI (Centro Sportivo Esercito). Giorgia PICCOLIN (Centro Sportivo Esercito) was eliminated in the quarter-finals by VIVARELLI and ended the streak of four consecutive titles. “I am happy with this title ” said TAN “after the one in 2008. At that time my daughter Gaia was seven years old and was on my bench. After 15 years she’s still on the bench and she helped me to get this win. When I was very tired and I couldn’t take it anymore she told me to give her a good example. I wanted to be an example for her and for the other young players and I did it. I don’t train much but my husband encourages me to go to the gym to keep fit. When I’m in the field I absolutely want to win. When I arrived in Cagliari I didn’t really think to win but to do what I could. Above all I wanted to stay with Gaia. I hope next year in it’s her turn to clinch the title.” In the Men’s singles MUTTI become champion for the third time after 2015 and 2019. In the final match he overcame 4-1 his mate in Aeronautica Militare Mihai BOBOCICA. John OYEBODE (Tennistavolo Sassari) and Jordy PICCOLIN (Gruppo Sportivo Fiamme Azzurre) were placed third. The defending champion Niagol STOYANOV (Gruppo Sportivo Fiamme Azzurre) lost to BOBOCICA in the last16. “This title is special” – explains MUTTI – “because these days the centenary of Aeronautica Militare is celebrated and this is my gift. It’s a great satisfaction at the beginning of the season I didn’t think I’d be able to win and this result gives me the energy to keep on doing my best and to be more and more competitive in the international field as well. The semifinal against OYEBODE was very tough and we battled till the last point with various match-points in the sixth set in favor of Johnny who in the seven and decisive set was leading 9-4. He put in an excellent performance and I want to congratulate him. I had the strength to win a match that seemed an impossible challenge for me. I really wanted to play in the same way in the finals too. I know BOBOCICA very well we’ve met many times and from a technical-tactical and above all mental point of view I did my job very well. Mihai was good too I showed character and courage and I was rewarded”. Newly crowned singles champions in Moldova are Alexandra CHIRIACOVA and Andrei PUTUNTICA.   The member of Turkish Superliga’s Merit Grup Real Mardin Alexandra CHIRIACOVA defended her title in singles by making it three in the row. She is also Moldova Women’s double Champion (2020 2022) and Moldova Mixed double’s champion (2020 2021 2022).   Andrei PUTUNTICA is the member of FSV Mainz 05 in German Bundesliga. In Netherlands in the women’s singles event Emine ERNST beat Tanja HELLE in the final to secure her second title at the National Championships. In Men’s Singles Barry BERBEN took revenge on Trinko KEEN in the semi-final and wins the finale 4-1 against Kas Van OOST. In Women’s Doubles Dobrila JORGUSESKA and Shuohan MEN beat Esmee van MARWIJK and Kim VERMAAS in the final stage. In Men’s doubles for the first time in the history of the Dutch championships a father and son were in the final. Michel and Milo de BOER earned their place in the ultimate stage by beating Lode HULSHOF and Thijs SMIT 3-1. The match however had little tension. Kas van OOST and Barry BERBEN defended their title by beating father and son De Boer 3-0.

Audrey ZARIF and Alexis LEBRUN clinched titles in their respective Women’s and Men’s Singles Event at the French National Championships held in the Azur Arena in Antibes The eldest of the LEBRUN brothers retained his title obtained last year. In the final he beat his brother Felix “I had a great match so I’m really happy to win this title. Inevitably it’s great fun it was not easy with the injury but we worked well so I’m super happy to achieve performances like that. It’s really unbelievable ” said Alexis. For a first time in her career Audrey ZARIF become champion at the Nationals in France. In the final she overcame Charlotte LUTZ. Pairings Prithika PAVADE and Camille LUTZ defended their Women’s Doubles title after they overcame Océane GUISNEL and Marie MIGOT in the final. In men’s Doubles Stéphane OUAICHE and Jules CAVAILLES clinched gold. It is the first one for CAVAILLES whilst OUAICHE won it with Abdel Kader SALIFOU in 2016 in Brest. In Norway Borgar HAUG from Fornebu BTK won NM gold and the King’s Cup in Men’s singles during the final on Sunday afternoon. He recorded a 4-3 final victory against Jimmy OJAKANGAS from Laksevåg BTK in a dramatic and exciting final (6-11 11-9 3-11 11-6 7-11 11-8 11-8). Thus Borgar also won the King’s Cup for the fourth time. The 20-year-old won the first three in 2019 2021 and 2022. Martine TOFTAKER from B-72 won gold and the King’s Cup in Women’s singles during the NM final on Sunday afternoon. In Bucharest Bernadette SZOCS and Ovidiu IONESCU are crowned champions in their respective Women’s and Men’s Singles Event at the Romania National Championships held this weekend. SZOCS defended the title she won last year and added two more on the record. “I am very happy because I won again the 3 national titles at the National Championships ! As long as I play table tennis my national goal will be to keep my 3 titles year after year ” promised SZOCS . Bernadette SZOCS also defended her title in the Women’s Doubles with Elizabeta SAMARA and in Mixed Doubles but partnering Ovidiu IONESCU this year. IONESCU won silver in Men’s Doubles with Alin SPELBUS. In men’s’ singles Hunor SZOCS is second and last year’s winner in Men’s singles Rareș ȘIPOȘ finished third with Eduard IONESCU. ASISA Borges Vall secured their fourth King’s Cup title exactly ten years after their first and Museo de la Almendra Francisco Morales clinched their first-ever Queen’s Cup Iberdrola. Both finals took place at the Olivo Arena Sports Palace in Jaén showcasing an exceptional level of talent and competition from all participating teams. ASISA Borges Vall achieved victory in a nail-biting final against Real Cajasur Priego TM 3-2. Visit Pontevedra and Irún Leka Enea completed the podium both receiving bronze medals after losing in the semifinals against ASISA Borges Vall and Real Cajasur Priego TM respectively. In the Queen’s Cup Iberdrola final Museo de la Almendra Francisco Morales faced Hujase Jaén Paraíso Interior. Son Cladera TTC and UCAM Cartagena TM earned the bronze medals as semifinalists completing the podium for the tournament.
