In the event hosted for the second year in a row by Chania Crete the 23-year-old player of Panathinaikos reached the most important title in his career after a total of 6 gold medals in junior and cadet’s singles. In the final he beat 4-1 the winner of 2018 and 2019 Konstantinos KONSTANTINOPOULOS. ZAVITSANOU the player of AEK celebrated for the second time after 2016. Then and now she overcame in the final Christina FILI but yesterday it was a shocking finale (4-3 games). In the Men’s doubles the brothers George and Konstantinos KONSTANTINOPOULOS won the gold whilest in the Women’s doubles Katerina TOLIOU and Konstantina PARIDI from DAO Tavrou and Olympiacos respectively held the gold. With a total of 55 entries the National Championship of Greece was successfully organized at the Kladisos Municipal Indoor Gym. This year’s event was also dedicated to the memory of Pera Athens and a member of the administration of HTTF for many years Damon DAMIANIDIS. AGGELAKIS is modern player with defensive skills and strong backhand. In the final after the first balanced games was applied to the left hand KONSTANTINOPOULOS (11-8 6-11 11-3 11-4 11-8). The final in women’s singles was really exciting. In the beginning Zavitsanou was 0-2 down against 8 times Greek champion FILI. Subsequently she went ahead 3-2 then sh leveled again and secured 7th game. ZAVITSANOU came back with a 3-7 and 6-9 then saved three match balls and prevailed by narow margin (8-11 2-11 11-4 11-8 12-10 9-11 17-15). In men’s doubles Giorgos and Konstantinos KONSTANTINOPOULOS captured the 4th title in last 5 years. In the final won Nikos ANTONIADIS/Dimitris PAPADIMITRIOU 3-1 games (11-4 9-11 11-3 15-13). In women’s doubles PARIDI finished with third consecutive gold medal. Two of them with TOLIOU. Lithuanian National Championships Three days of Lithuanian National Championships held in Lithuania capital Vilnius brought a lot of emotions. It was special championships as the Association celebrated 90th year anniversary for Lithuanian National Championships. The winner of the Lithuanian National s Championships for the second time became Medardas STANKEVICIUS (coach Viktoras STANKEVICIUS) and Kornelija RILISKYTE (coach Jolanta PRUSIENE). RILISKYTE secured place in finals after win against sister Emilija RILISKYTE in the semi-finals. In the finals she won against Vitalija VENCKUTE. Medardas STANKEVICIUS in the finals beat last year’s champion Alfredas UDRAS and became champion for the second time. Welsh National Championships Charlotte CAREY and Callum EVANS both added another title to their list of achievements in Cardiff today at the Welsh National Championships. CAREY who has won five previous senior titles beat Anna Hursey 4:1 to claim number 6. With just three more to go to level with Naomi OWEN the Ebbw Vale player will be working towards that goal. Semi-finalists included Danielle KELLY (who had a great win over Chloe THOMAS) and Lara WHITTON. Callum EVANS beat Marc CASTRO in the final in another 4:1 encounter. The scores in each set were closely fought with loads of two point sets separating the pair. Louie EVANS and Josh STACEY made the semi-finals respectively. In the U11 singles the winners were Daniel MEAD and Darcey TAYLOR winning in round robin events. John HOOK won the Over 60 singles defeating Ray GOULDING in the final. Congratulations John on being Welsh Champion 2020. Ruby ELLIOTT won the U13 girls event beating sister Lily ELLIOTT to the top spot. Darcey TAYLOR was 3rd Seren JONES 4th and Lily WALTERS 5th. Toby HARWOOD took the U13 boys beating Elis O’CONNOR in the final. Toby won the U11 in 2018 so is progressing in the right way and will look to add the cadet singles in the coming years. The U21 Men was won by Josh STACEY. In a huge 7th set battle Marc CASTRO just fell short in the end and Josh was able to pull through. In the U21 women Anna HURSEY added yet one more title to the collection beating Danielle KELLY in the final. Danielle had a great weekend and has learnt valuable lessons from Czech and Sweden in recent weeks In the Vets 40 singles Ryan OWEN took the title beating former champion Lee THOMAS. Lee winner on four occasions (2014-2017) couldn’t make it a 5th title this time. Owen CLUTTERBUCK and Dennis BROMAGElost at the semi-final stage. A shot out to Dennis as he was winner in 2 categories and semi-finalist in 2 categories – what a star! German National Championships Nina MITTELHAM was the most successful participant of the 88th German National Championships concluded today March 1st in the sold out Richard-Hartmann-Halle in Chemnitz. Berlin’s player defended her singles crown and added another title in the Women’s Doubles event. One of the most talented European players MITTELHAM was extended to full distance by Kristin LANG in the exciting final clash but managed to win four games in a row last two by a narrow margin. Ricardo WALTHER is the first Men’s Singles champion in the post-Timo BOLL era (German legend retired from the national championships last year after his 13th title). Norwegian Championship Jimmy OJAKANGAS Laksevåg BTK won 4-0 against Borgar HAUG in the men’s singles final during the Norwegian Championships in the Oslofjord Convention Center. The 30-year-old was superb in the final and the advance favorite from Fokus BTK was beaten clearly. It was Jimmy’s first singles’ title and his first King’s trophy. Sonja OBRADOVIC B-72 won 4-3 in the women’s finals against club friend Martine TOFTAKER in the women’s singles during the NC at the Oslofjord Convention Center. England’s National Championships Liam PITCHFORD won his sixth Men’s Singles title and HO Tin-Tin her fourth Women’s Singles on Finals Day of the Mark Bates Ltd National Championships. PITCHFORD recovered a 2-0 deficit to overcome Paul DRINKHALL in six while HO was ruthless in ending the fairytale run of 15-year-old Mari Baldwin 4-0. The sixth set was a masterclass from PITCHFORD showing the home crowd why he has been ranked in the world’s top 20. He won it 11-5 in emphatic fashion and moves level with DRINKHALL Alan COOKE and Denis NEALE on six Men’s Singles titles. After the match PITCHFORD said: “It feels amazing. I’m on the same amount as plenty of good players so the next step is to keep winning. At the start I don’t think I played that bad. He was playing really well. Even throughout the whole match I think we both kept a good level. I had a bit of luck at the end of the fifth set and it can change matches. It was a few points here or there today and it went my way.” Ross WILSON won a pulsating encounter with Kim DAYBELL 3-2 to take the para class 7-10 title and Jack HUNTER-SPIVEY also needed a decider to see off Dan BULLEN in the para class 3-5 event. Dutch National Championships The new table tennis champions of Holland are SHUO Han Men and Laurens TROMER. They both won the Dutch national championships in the single event for the second time in their careers. SHUO Han Men surprised the number one of the ranking Kim VERMAAS the champion of 2019 in the final. The teenager the number two of the ranking won this match with 4-0 (11-7 11-9 11-9 11-9). The match duration was only 30 minutes. She won her first title two years ago in 2017. Laurens TROMER defeated Rajko Gommers the number one of the ranking list. He played a very decent final in Zwolle and won the game with 4-0 as well (11-4 11-6 11-8 11-7). He won his first title in 2016.
