April 6 is coming… Are you ready?
It feels like yesterday that we celebrated the 2020 edition of World Table Tennis Day from home. We believe that these unique and challenging times have made us and the World Table Tennis Day movement even stronger. On 6 April 2021 the focus will be even more on inclusiveness. So save the date and take this opportunity of celebrating this special day to raise awareness of gender equality in your community! Because table tennis is FUN and should be shared with everybody. World Table Tennis Day movement geographical distribution grew from year to year: In 2015 people from 70 countries and territories celebrated this special day for the very first time at small and big events whereas in 2020 people from 171 countries and territories were already celebrating – this time mainly from home Even if Covid-19 is still present in some countries or territories we will make it a blast with your help – from home from the park the gym … or wherever you would like to celebrate from to make WTTD and our beloved sport even more popular universal and inclusive. 2021 will be about Gender Equality and FEMpowerment through Table Tennis. In general table tennis and many other sports are facing a low participation rate of women and girls. World Table Tennis Day is a perfect excuse not only to celebrate but also to attract new players to our sport. With the 2021 preparation we will provide you with useful tools about how to get more women and girls to the table and how to keep them on board on the long term. Because table tennis is fun and should be shared with everybody. Of course this is not the only argument: Unfortunately girls and women constitute the largest group of disadvantaged people in the World. This is an unfair situation because all genders should have the same human rights which has still not been achieved in many parts of the world. Therefore we (and hopefully you too) want to contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 “Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls”. Above this data shows a dramatic increase of violence against women and girls since the outbreak of Covid-19 in particular domestic violence. As many of them struggle to access services such as health police and sport facilities you could be the person to create a safe environment for them through your WTTD celebration. We believe that everyone is equal and that the fight for equal fundamental human rights is not only related to girls and women! Everyone – including boys and men – has to be involved! No matter which gender age race religion culture and physical ability you are: We simply ask YOU to use your passion for table tennis and your motivation to do something good to take WTTD as a reason to raise awareness for gender equality in your community! Be one of the empowered people to empower girls and women through table tennis. Support them! Find your way to help them develop skills and knowledge to become an equal partner and player. Because gender equality is central to the achievement of all UN SDGs as it is not only a human right but a necessary foundation for a peaceful prosperous and sustainable world. STUMPER unbeaten KOSOLOSKY and BAN do not give up
Junior Event at the European Youth Top 10 Two third of the Junior Boys matches concluded in five games during two days of the play at the European Youth Top 10 in Berlin. The leading name in this statistic is Adam KLAJBER of Slovakia who played all his five matches in five games and lost four of them. Ivor BAN is not far from this record. He played four matches and three of them finished after fifth set. He also lost only one match at the beginning of the tournament but today she showed no mercy. He beat Tomas MARTINKO of Czech Republic Adam KLAJBER of Slovakia and Filip DELINCAK of Slovakia. “Against MARTINKO I was down in the fifth game my game was not steady but I was not losing my head. I won decisive game by narrow margin and that gave me extra confidence ” explained BAN. Against KLAJBER we saw table tennis marathon. “I had a 2:1 lead and we played extra-long fourth game. With lot of advantages on both sides KLAJBER won 24:22. I said ‘All right’ and continued that match like nothing happened. I put that game completely out of my mind and won the decisive game. I was prepared for such scenario. My coach and I talked a lot about the tactics and I was ready mentally. Like I was ready for the match against DELINCAK. I beat him 3:0 despite the fact that our previous matches were always close 50-50.” Only unbeaten player on the field is Kay STUMPER of Germany. Among his victims today were Olav KOSOSLOSKY of Belgium who suffered only one defeat in five rounds. “My performance was not bad in that match. I had 6:0 in first game I was close to win the second one. If it was 1:1 it will be different story ” explained KOSOSLOSKY. Before this match KOSOLOSKY overcame DELINCAK and KLAJBER. “ I never played against KLAJBER before so I needed time to adjust to his game. The main point was to find the right service – return game. I had to explore and to fight for each ball. Against DELINCAK I played three games and won. I guess he was under pressure because he had really bad luck in previous match. This is the tournament where you can finished way behind because of few unlucky situations. When you miss chance or two there is no space to come back ” said KOSOLOSKY. Junior Boys Round 5 Adam KLAJBER – Nicolas DEGROS 2:3 (7:11 12:10 9:11 11:7 8:11) Filip DELINCAK- Ivor BAN 0:3 (10:12 6:11 4:11) Kay STUMPER – Olav KOSOLOSKY 3:1 (11:8 14:12 3:11 11:9) Round 4 Olav KOSOLOSKY– Filip DELINCAK 3:0 (11:2 11:7 11:9) Ivor BAN– Adam KLAJBER 3:2 (11:9 7:11 12:10 22:24 11:4) Nicolas DEGROS – Tomas MARTINKO 2:3 (11:3 7:11 12:10 2:11 9:11) Round 3 Adam KLAJBER- Olav KOSOLOSKY 2:3 (7:11 11:8 11:9 5:11 8:11) Filip DELINCAK- Kay STUMPER 0:3 (1:11 7:11 10:12) Tomas MARTINKO- Ivor BAN 2:3 (7:11 11:7 11:6 9:11 11:13) Liveticker here Streaming at Sportdeutschland.tv Day 2 Day 3
Darya KISEL puts her adversaries on severe pressure
Junior Girls Event at the European Youth Top 10 in Berlin Prithika PAVADE of France and Elena ZAHARIA of Romania did not lose their speed on the second day of the play at the Junior Singles Event at the European Top 10 in Berlin. After six Rounds they are both unbeaten. Prithika PAVADE won all six matches and tomorrow will play against Germany’s Sophia KLEE and Elena ZAHARIA whilst Romania’s young star has one match more because she played only 5 so far. PAVADE beat Helga DARI of Hungary Linda ZADEROVA of Czech Republic and Darya KISEL of Belarus today. Darya lost two matches in five encounters. The match against PAVADE lasted unusually short than we expected. “PAVADE has the game for the players with the defensive style. That is why I had to change my tactics. I had to attack more to change my style and to go with the spin. I gave my best but she was better ” said KISEL. It was different story against Sophia KLEE. “I played with many variations. I felt the ball I was in good rhythm. I had a good spin ” said Darya.” Tomorrow I have to play against ZAHARIA COK and BONDAREVA so I am still long way to go. There are no easy games here.” KLEE recorded one victory and one defeat today and both matches were very close. Against Linda ZADEROVA of Czech Republic she was stretched to full distance and she suffered first defeat in fifth round against Belarus KISEL. “For me it is very difficult to play against the players with the defensive style. I knew it will be tough and I also saw my mistakes during the match and I failed to correct it. I had to change my forehand; it went too deep and my racket was in wrong position. Eventually Darya won ” said Sophia. In the morning part of the program ZADEROVA also put KLEE on the test. “At the beginning I played very good. I was focused and managed to keep her game under control. Tactically ZADEROVA makes very little mistakes and you have to play on each ball. She proved that in fifth game when I was 8:3 in the lead and she managed to recover. It was 10:10 in split second. She never gives up. I stayed calm and won it but it was difficult match ” explained KLEE. What about tomorrow? “I will play against top seeded COK and no. 2 PAVADE so I am aware I do not have space for single mistake. They will punish every weak ball. I will give my best and I hope for good result.” Elena ZAHARIA faced match ball in the match against Reka BEZEG of Serbia but eventually prevailed in five games. Later she overcame DARI and ZADEROVA in straight games.
