The ETTU second Eurotalents Development Camp U-17 it is underway with a total of 26 players from 11 European countries and 12 of their coaches. They are working in Havirov in Czech Republic. “All player nominations are made on equal level U-15 and U-17 group and as always here in Havirov we have a strong “coaching team” led by Josef PLACHY Sasa DRAGAS Marek KLASEK Jaroslav MIKECKA and Patrik KAIZAR fitness coach. I am glad that for the first time in Eurotalents we got some new very young and talented players from whom I expect a lot in the future ” said ETTU Development Manager Neven CEGNAR.
TABLE TENNIS TO SENIOR CITIZENS IN COPENHAGEN WITH PARKINSON AND DEMENTIA
The City of Copenhagen and Table Tennis Denmark has made an agreement about introducing table tennis in elderly homes and in parcs in Copenhagen and the City of Copenhagen will give 1 million Danish kroners to make it possible for thousands of senior citizens to play table tennis in the Danish Capital. More than 5 000 Danes in Copenhagen are diagnosed with Parkinsons and dementia. Table Tennis Denmark and the City of Copenhagen has agreed to collaborate and make it possible for thousands of senior citizens to play table tennis in the Danish capital. The scientific research the recent years has documented that table tennis has a healthpromoting effect on seniors and especially their cognitive development. The research also shows that table tennis might have beneficial effects in the treatment of neurological disorders such as Parkinsons and dementia. Mayor in Copenhagen Cecilia Lonning-Skovgaard and the Chairman of the board in Table Tennis Denmark Henrik VENDELBO are now taking the lead in initiating initiatives to promote activities for senior citizens and citizens in the municipality who have been diagnosed with Parkinsons and dementia. Cecilia LONNING-SKOVGAARD speaks both as mayor of Employment and a former table tennis player. “I am pleased that we are now part of a collaboration together. I have played table tennis myself for many years and know that the sport is an ideal sport for our health especially the senior citizens in our city – I think we should get started as soon as possible”. Henrik VENDELBO says: “I am so pleased that there is political focus on our sport and its good effects. We want to get many more people to play table tennis because we ourselves love the sport and its many opportunities. Our initiative with the City of Copenhagen now makes it possible for table tennis as a sport to provide an excellent supplement to the public health service to senior citizens with chronic illnesses. As a sports association we now take a clear health and social responsibility. It begins in Copenhagen. We expect to spread it to the rest of the country in the coming years”. First Ever American-Hosted World Table Tennis Championships Finals with Only a Month to Go
There is only a month to go until the opening of 2021 ITTF World Table Tennis Championships Finals which will be held in Houston Texas set to become the first American city to host this event. The world’s best players will face each other from 23-29 November at George R. Brown Convention Center and world number one Fan Zhendong and Chen Meng of China are amongst the galaxy of stars at the week-long table tennis spectacle. Adopting a revamped and expanded format for the first time the flagship event of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) will feature 128 players in singles (Men and Women) and 64 pairs in each of the doubles competitions (Men Doubles Women Doubles Mixed Doubles) competing in a straight knockout format. “Houston is honoured to be the first city in the Americas to host the World Table Tennis Championships Finals ” said Harris County – Houston Sports Authority CEO Janis Burke. “The event will showcase the world’s most talented players and we want to invite all of Houston’s culturally rich and diverse population to come out and support them in force. Even if they are just beginning to learn about the sport we encourage everyone to experience this marquee once in a lifetime event!” Team USA’s Kanak Jha who has won every national title between 2016 and 2019 for a record four straight national championships is also ready and eager. “It’s extremely exciting and truly historic in the sport to have the World Championships played on US soil ” Jah said. “It’s something that I never could have imagined growing up and I can’t wait to compete in front of a home crowd for the first time. I think this will be an event all table tennis players will remember and cherish in their career.” This is the first time since 1939 the ITTF World Table Tennis Championships Finals will take place out of Asia or Europe. The ITTF Annual General Meeting will also be held in Houston on 24 November 2021. The main items on the agenda include the election of the ITTF President the election of the host of the 2024 World Table Tennis Championships Finals and a proposition to change the service rule in doubles matches put forward by the Iran Table Tennis Federation. Celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Ping Pong Diplomacy are also planned as part of this historic World Table Tennis Championships.

Due the surgery Dimitrij OVTCHAROV withdrew from the World Championships
Team Germany faced big blow after Dimitrij OVTCHAROV was forced to withdrew from the World Championships to be held in November in Huston. “ I twisted my ankle during training last week. After consultation with several experts I decided to have a minor ankle surgery. The operation went very well and showed that it was the right decision. I’d like to thank Dr. Mayer Dr. Bolay and their dedicated team at ZFOS. Now I will fully focus on the rehabilitation training which starts right away ” stated OVTCHAROV on his Instagram account. https://www.instagram.com/dimaovtcharov/ OVTCHAROV stated: “I am sad to announce that I will not be in Houston for the World Championships. This makes me very sad as I wanted to use the momentum built during the Olympics. Unfortunately injuries are part of sports. But you know me I will work hard and I will come back even stronger. See you on the table soon! “ National coach Jorg ROSSKOPF said: “That is of course bitter for him. He was in a really good mood played well and of course had big plans for the World Championships. In order to be able to continue playing for a long time you have to listen to the signals from your body. I am optimistic that Dima will soon continue. He should heal the injury in peace get himself back in shape mentally and physically and then hopefully he will be in top shape again at the beginning of 2022. “ The coaching team around Jörg ROSSKOPF will probably decide at the beginning of November about the successor for OVTCHAROV who has been decorated with a total of six Olympic medals. In addition to OVTCHAROV record European champion Timo BOLL who is 15 in the World rankings is nominated. Patrick FRANZISKA as well as the reigning German singles champion Benedikt DUDA and mixed European champion Dang QIU. ETTU Preparation Camp for ITTF World Youth Championships 2021
The European Table Tennis Union (Development Program) in an effort to help and support best young players and their national associations invites the best European Under-19 and Under-15 players to join common preparation camp prior the ITTF WYTTC which will be held in Portugal’s Vila Nova de Gaia on November 23rd to 30th 2021. The venue is Pavilhao Municipal de Vila Nova de Gaia (Centro de Alto Rendimento de Mesa Rua Almeida Garrett 4430-300 Oliveira do Douro). Coaches in charge for the WYTTC are Ricardo OLIVEIRA (POR) and Neven Cegnar (ETTU). Quota for the Entries: each NA participating in a team WYTTC tournament can nominate maximum until 4 players and each NA participating in single WYTTC tournament can nominate maximum 2 players. Europe Cup takeover the spotlight this weekend
After the opening rounds in Champions league last month it is time for Europe cup clubs to enter the scene in full speed. From tomorrow the matches in four groups in each European Cup Men and Women will be played all over Europe. In the Men’s Europe Cup in Group A will play STK Starr Croatia TTS UMMC ELEM (Russia) SK Vydrany (Slovakia) Universidad De Burgos -TPF (Spain) and UTTC Stockerau (Austria). The host is Croatia and the tournament will be played in Varazdin in the same venue known to the clubs from the final stage of the Europe Cup played earlier this year. Borgar HAUG crowned champion at the Juniors Event in Tours
Borgar HAUG of Norway clinched gold in the Junior Boys Event at the TAMANNEFTEGAS European Youth Top 10 in Tours. In dramatic finish by narrowest of margins Ivor BAN of Croatia beat Adrien RASSENFOSSE of Belgium and reached the silver. By doing so he pushed HAUG back to the top spot. Third is Maciej KUBIK of Poland. Borgar HAUG lost two matches like the other two medal winners but the one in the last round against Thibault PORET put him into agony. PORET was match ball down but he recovered to win the match. HAUG was forced to wait for the outcome of the last match at the tournament between BAN and RASSENFOSSE. “It was so difficult. I was angry and disappointed because of the defeat and then I have to wait for someone else to decide my faith ” explained HAUG. Speaking about previous three days of play HAUG pointed to hardest match. “I lost against ANDRAS and PORET and there is no doubt how hard were those matches but when I speak about the victories than I have to say Darius MOVILEANU put me under great pressure ” said HAUG. When you felt you can win here? “After I beat KUBIK. That was very good match. I was at the top of the game. I started to think about the victory but I was aware how dangerous is this tournament. All the players are very close you must always stay focused ” said HAUG. Camille LUTZ had her moment of magic
In front of home crowd Camille LUTZ of France clinched the title in the Junior Girls Event at the TAMANNEFTEGAS European Youth Top 10 in Tours. In the closing moments of the event Elena ZAHARIA of Romania pushed herself into the second position at the medal rostrum whilst in photo-finish after the defeat against ZAHARIA Vlada VORONINA of Russia lost her position at the medal rostrum. Hana ARAPOVIC of Croatia finished third. Camille LUTZ lost only one match at the tournament but it proved to be very dangerous one- she lost to VORONINA. “It was very close match that went on her side at the end. It proved tho be very important one because in the last round I could of lost my title despite the 8 wins I had. However that is the magic of this tournament. You have to play every mach to the maximum you never knows which match will be crucial ” said LUTZ. LUTZ learnt it hard way. “I played at the Top 10 two years ago. It was my only appearance in the cadet category. On the opening day I had three wins everything was perfect. Then I lost one on the second day and everything changed for worst. I ended with few defeats in the row. That is how I know you have to win every match here ” explained LUTZ. In Tours Camille was challenged few times. “It was very difficult to play against KLEE. It was the last match on the second day; I was very tired. I had to push myself to play over the limits ” said LUTZ. LUTZ won bronze in Varazdin at the European Youth Championships in singles and gold in mixed doubles this year. Gold for Iulian CHIRITA at the TAMANNEFTEGAS European Youth Top 10
After two silver medals in previous two years Iulian CHIRITA of Romania finally clinched gold at the Cadet Boys Event at the TAMANNEFTEGAS European Youth Top 10 in Tours. In three days of play he remained unbeaten. His compatriot Dragos Alexandru BUJOR is second with one win less whilst Tom CLOSSET of Belgium reached third position. He lost two matches. “Finally I reached gold. I played in 2019 and 2020 at Top 10 also I played in the final of the Singles and Doubles event earlier this year at the European Youth Championships in Varazdin but I missed the main prize at the last hurdle. Now I have first gold at he big European event. It gives me great confidence for the future ” said CHIRITA. In previous three days Romania’s player faced few difficulties. “It was very hard to play against my teammate Dragos Alexandru BUJOR. I had 3:0 he recovered to level and then I won the seventh game 11:7. Also it was difficult to play against David SZANTOSI on the second day. All the games finished by the narrowest of margin ” explained CHIRITA.
