The Under 19 Girls’ competition at the Europe Youth Top 10 in Tours saw a dramatic shift on the second day as top seed and reigning champion Veronika MATIUNINA of Ukraine was forced to withdraw due to illness. With her absence, the focus turned to the new frontrunners: France’s Leana HOCHART and Romania’s Bianca MEI ROSU, both of whom emerged as the strongest contenders for the title after six rounds.
HOCHART, backed by the home crowd, delivered a flawless performance across the day. She overcame Portugal’s Matilde PINTO in four games, cruised past Julia LEAL in straight games, and capped her run with an emphatic 4–0 victory over MEI ROSU in the key showdown of Round 6. With six wins and only one defeat, the French player now leads the standings on countback.
MEI ROSU, meanwhile, continued her excellent form, defeating Veronika POLAKOVA of Czechia and sweeping past Poland’s Natalia BOGDANOWICZ before running into HOCHART in their highly anticipated duel. Despite the loss, the Romanian remains level with her French rival at 6–1, firmly in contention for the title heading into the final rounds.
Elsewhere, Portugal’s Julia LEAL produced one of the surprises of the day, narrowly edging BOGDANOWICZ in seven games in Round 4. France’s Nina GUO ZHENG also stayed in the chase, winning two five-setters before closing with a dominant victory over PINTO.
