The 40th edition of the Vic International Open concluded in Barcelona with triumphs for Spain’s Álvaro ROBLES and Ukraine’s Natalya PROSVIRNINA, who wrote their names into the history of one of Spain’s longest-standing table tennis events. More than 300 players competed at the Vic Sports Pavilion, underlining the prestige of the tournament on the RFETM calendar.
ROBLES, the number one player on the Spanish national team, sealed the men’s singles crown with a strong performance. In the final he overcame Russia’s Kostantin CHERNOV, the defending champion, proving his sharp form ahead of his debut for Spo Rouen in the French Pro A league, scheduled for tomorrow. ROBLES had earlier beaten Argentine Nicolás GALVANO (Visit Pontevedra) in the semifinals, showcasing consistency and control throughout the event.
In the women’s singles, Natalya PROSVIRNINA, representing Miró Ganxets Costa Daurada, produced high-level table tennis to secure the title. She prevailed in the final against Russian Tatiana GARNOVA, from Francisco Morales Almond Museum, after having already dispatched Girbau Vic TT’s new recruit, Czech international Katerina TOMANOVSKA, in the semifinal.
On the men’s side, CHERNOV’S route to the final included a victory over local hope Iker GONZÁLEZ, from CER L’Escala, while GARNOVA defeated the tournament’s biggest surprise package, young Martina SANS of Girbau Vic TT, who impressed with her breakthrough run.
One notable absence was Austria’s Robert GARDOS, who was forced to withdraw from the finals due to a severe fever.
