WU_Jiaduo02/03/2010 – This year again Timo BOLL and Christian SUSS will not play in Doubles Event at the German closed championships (the same will be at the German Open). As there are so many tournaments in March and in addition Timo had a leg injury in February both players will focus on the singles events. Timo is the major favorite in singles. With nine national singles titles so far he is on top of the list together with Eberhard SCH?? and Conrad FREUNDORFER.

BOLL’S main opponents will be his national teammates Dimitrij OVTCHAROV Bastian STEGER Christian SUSS and Patrick BAUM. “I must be in good shape to beat them in Trier ” Boll says.

European champion WU Jiaduo is still lacking the singles title in her collection. In 2006 she won the doubles event partnering Nicole STRUSE. In singles she has so far just won a bronze medal in 2007. Last year she could not compete because of an illness. “It is not easy to win the national championships. This is a title I definitely like to win” says Wu.

The favorites in Men’s Doubles are Patrick BAUM and Dimitrij OVTCHAROV whilst in Women’s Doubles odds are on side of Elke SCHALL and WU Jiaduo.

The venue is for the first time so-called “Arena Trier”. It comprises around 4000 spectators. Trier is one of the oldest cities in Germany – situated not too far from the borders of Luxemburg and Belgium. This year it will be the 78th edition of the national championships.

Last year winner in Men’s singles is Timo BOLL in Women’s singles: Elke SCHALL Men’s Doubles: J??SCHLICHTER/Alexander FLEMMING (last year’s surprise – BOLL and SUS did not play but FETZNER/RO?OPF had their “anniversary comeback” 20 years after their gold medal in Dortmund 1989). Women’s Doubles: ZHENQI Barthel/Kristin SILBEREISEN.
