Rotterdam signed contract to host 2011 World Championships

14/03/2010 – ITTF President Adham SHARARA signed the contract for the 2011 World Table Tennis Championships in Rotterdam The Netherlands. Saturday the signature was made in the presence of all members of the ITTF Executive Committee and mrs. Erica TERPSTRA President of The Netherlands Olympic Committee.

Under the theme “Join the table” the 2011 WTTC will be hosted from 8th till 15th May in the City of Sports Rotterdam. Ahoy will be the venue for the most important global table tennis event. The 2011 WTTC are organised by the Stichting Tafeltennis Evenementen (STN) on behalf of The Netherlands Table Tennis Association (NTTB) in association with Rotterdam Topsport.

ITTF Executive Committee had a board meeting in Rotterdam and ITTF staff visited different hotels and the Ahoy venue. ITTF-president Adham SHARARA was welcomed together with NTTB-president Edgar VERKOOIJEN and 2011 WTTC ambassador Bettine VRIESEKOOP in the town hall of Rotterdam by mayor Ahmed ABOUTALEB. “The good cooperation with all parties involved and the enthusiasm of the ITTF concerning our preparations is very pleasant – says tournament director Ton VAN HAPPEN. – We are well on course and the contract signature underlines that.”

NTTB-president Edgar VERKOOIJEN is also satisfied concerning cooperation so far. “We are happy with the way several matters are already tackled and concerning the role of the NTTB in this. Mrs. TERPSTRA took the opportunity to broing our our common objective of a possible bid for the 2028 Olympic Games in a her enthusiastic manner under the attention of ITTF Executive Committee.”
