National Championships: Greece crowned PAPAGEORGIOU and FILI

20/05/2010 – Two athletes of AS Pera Athens Kostas PAPAGEORGIOU in men’s and Christina FILI in women’s captured the titles of the Singles Event in the National Championship of Greece that took place on Vizantino Sport Center in Athens (15-16 May).

PAPAGEORGIOU reiterated the success of 2005 and FILI won the gold medal in this event for the sixth time. In the final of the men’s singles 31-year player overcame Dimitris PAPADIMITRIOU from AO Tatavla 4-0 games (11-8 12-10 11-5 11-8).In the semifinal PAPAGEORGIOU excluded Tasos RINIOTIS (Olympiakos) with 4-1 and PAPADIMITRIOU beat George KOSTANTINOPOULO (AO Pefkis) 4-0.

In the semifinal of the women’s singles Christina FILI succeeded by 4-1 against Katerina NTOULAKI who is playing in Spain in Valladolid Kolossa (7-11 11-7 11-9 11-5 11-4). In the semifinal FILI defeated Laura NIKOULAE (Olympiakos) 4-1 and NTOULAKI overcame Angelina PAPADAKI (AS Pera Athens) 4-2 sets. A total of eight athletes won gold medal and this fact testifies the intense rivalry that existed during the tournament.

The young men George FRAGOULIS and George KONSTANTINOPOULOS (AO Tatavla/AO Pefkis) created a small surprise in Men’s Doubles Event taking the first place. They succeeded in the final match against Tasos RINIOTIS and Dimitris PAPADIMITRIOU with 3-2 sets (7-11 9-11 11-8 11-9 11-5).

In Women’s Doubles Event Laura NIKOULAE and Maria CHRISTOFORAKI from Olympiakos won the title. In the final they beat the favorites to win the tournament Katerina NTOULAKI/Christina FILI 3-0 games (11-7 11-7 12-10).

In Mixed Doubles Event the first place has been won by two athletes who represent worthily the Greek table tennis abroad. John VLOTINOS playing in Chartres France and Katerina NTOULAKI who plays in Kolossa of Valladolid Spain. In the final they dominated in the match against Kostas PAPAGEORGIOU/Laoura NIKOULAE with 3-0 (11-1 12-10 11-9).
