Dimitrij OVTCHAROV suspended because of positive doping test

22/09/2010 – Today the European Table Tennis Union (ETTU) have been informed by the German Table Tennis Association (DTTB) regarding a positive doping test of German player Dimitrij OVTCHAROV on August 23rd 2010. TheB-analyse has not yet been opened. For the moment the player has been suspended by the German Association.

ETTU awaits any official communication from DTTB before taking any further decision.

The doping control had been held on 23.8.2010 at the residence of the athlete in Hameln had been analyzed at the Institute of Biochemistry German Sport University Cologne by Prof. Dr. Wilhem SCHANZER and had proved to be finding in the A sample the forbidden substance “clenbuterol”. The athlete can apply within a week for the opening of the B sample.

The DTTB fully follows the anti-doping regulations of the NADA and has provisionally suspended the already informed athlete.

OVTCHAROV had fallen out in the team event’s game against France played in the European Championships last week in Ostrava after a tendon injury to his ankle. At that time neither the player nor the DTTB had note of the outcome of the doping test.

The national teams of the DTTB are subject to regular control by the NADA. The World N?2 Timo BOLL has been tested 6 times in the past 3 months.
