National Championships: first title for Bastian STEGER in Germany

06/03/2011 – Bastian STEGER pulled of the big coup in 2011 national championships in Bamberg. The 29 year-old national player won the title in men`s singles and doubles as well. “A dream comes true” said the Bavarian.
It`s STEGER’s first national title in singles. In 2002 and 2005 he also reached the finals but was beaten by Timo BOLL. In Bamberg he overcame Dimitrij OVTCHAROV in seven games. In doubles finals STEGER and Lars HIELSCHER beat the young guns Philipp FLORITZ and Patrick FRANZISKA in seven games.

The new title holder in women`s singles is Zhenqi BARTHEL. The 24 years old national player overcame 2009 European champion Jiaduo WU in five games. 2011 Champions in Women`s doubles are Irene IVANCAN and Ying HAN.

Men’s Doubles Semi Final: Patrick FRANZISKA/Philipp FLORITZ – Jorg SCHLICHTER/Alexander FLEMMING 4:2 (-1 -7 9 7 6 2); Lars HIELSCHER/Bastian STEGER – Thomas BROSIG/Erik BOttroff 4:1 (5 2 4 -9 4 -10). Final:
Patrick FRANZISKA/Philipp FLORITZ – Lars HIELSCHER/Bastian STEGER 3:4 (2 -3 8 -6 -7 9 -10)

Women’s Singles Semi final: WU Jiaduo – Ivancan IVANCAN 4:1 (5 5 -10 7 5); ZHENQI Barthel – HAN Ying 4:3 (-9 -6 9 8 -4 8 7). Final: WU Jiaduo – ZHENQI Barthel 1:4 (3 -6 -8 -8 -10)

Men’s Singles Semi Final: Christian SUSS- Bastian STEGER 2:4 (7 -8 -13 10 -9 -5); Patrick BAUM – Dimitrij OVTCHAROV 1:4 (-10 -4 7 -4 -7). Final: Bastian STEGER – Dimitrij OVTCHAROV 4:3 (-8 12 -6 10 -6 10 8)
