Germany’s QIU Dang and Denmark’s Tobias RASMUSSEN alongside the host nation’s Patryk CHOJNOWSKI were the players to cause the major upsets in the first stage of the Men’s Singles event at the GAC Group 2015 ITTF World Tour Polish Open in Warsaw.
QIU Dang accounted Austria’s Daniel HABESOHN (5-11 7-11 11-9 11-9 12-10 11-4) Tobias RASMUSSEN overcame Japan’s Seiya KISHIKAWA (11-13 12-10 11-9 11-9 11-8); whilst Patryk CHOKNOWSKI beat Singapore’s YANG Zi (3-11 11-7 11-3 11-6 11-8).
Currently 18 year old QIU Dang is listed at no.307 on the Men’s World Rankings Daniel HABESOHN is at no.54. Neither Tobias RASMUSSEN nor Patryk CHOYKNOWSKI possess a current Men’s World Ranking whilst Seiya KISHIKAWA is at no.93 and YANG Zi at no.152.

“I’m angry because of my play I was ahead two-nil in games and 5-3 in the third” reflected Patryk CHOJNOWSKI. “I thought about winning I had problems concentrating I was waiting for him to make mistakes; it was my fault I must not do that in the future I became nervous I must learn from this lesson.”
Russia’s Alexander SHIBAEV and Grigory VLASOV both secured relatively comfortable wins; the former beat Frenchman Alexander LANDRIEU (9-11 11-9 11-5 9-11 11-8); the latter accounted for Kanak JHA of the United States (11-9 11-5 11-5 11-7). Sweden’s Kristian KARLSSON accounted for the Czech Republic’s Ondrej BAJGER (9-11 11-4 11-1 11-5 5-11 11-6).The Czech Republic’s Jiri VRABLIK upset the order of merit by beating both Belgium’s Cédric NUYTINCK (11-9 9-11 7-11 11-5 11-9 11-6) and the Slovak Republic’s BAI He (11-4 11-5 11-9 11-8).Currently on the Men’s World Rankings Cédric Nuytinck is at no.130 Bai He at no.157 and Jiri VRABLIK at no.197.
In the Women’s Singles Qualifications Bernadette SZOCS of Romania needed six games to beat Marie MIGOT of France (10-12 11-9 11-4 4-11 11-5 11-7).
Success for the leading names but it was not to be for the player on whom most eyes were focused.
The winner of the recently held Junior Girls’ Singles Top Ten tournament in the Romania city of Buzau Natalia BAJOR was beaten in her opening contest by Hungary’s Mercedes NAGYVARADI. She experienced defeated in a closely fought seven games contest (11-5 11-4 6-11 7-11 3-11 11-9 11-7).
“During the first part of this match I didn’t have a chance against Mercedes” said Natalia BAJOR. “I changed a few things in my play and that’s why I won the next three games but receiving service I made too many mistakes; that’s why I lost.”
