Serbia caused major upset against England

ITTF-European Championships Teams

In the first stage of the ITTF-European Championships Teams Serbia created the major upset by beating England. Only four days after England faced Sweden in the match for the medal at the LIEBHERR ITTF World Championships they flew to Serbia’s town of Pozega to meet their adversaries in Groups B in Men’s Event.

In World Championships those two teams were not in the same Division; whilst England was playing major role in the Championships Division Serbia struggled to survive in the Second. However the outcome of the match was far from expecting regarding their positions in Halmstad.

Aleksandar KARAKASEVIC beat Paul DRINKHALL by narow margin 3:2 (11:9 6:11 11:9 7:11 11:13) to give Serbia dream start. Zolt PETE continued in the same pace against Liam PITCHFORD 3:2 (12:14 11:9 4:11 12:10 11:9) whilst Marko PETKOV overcame Samuel WALKER.

It was first match for Serbia in the Group whilst Engleand already preaviled against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
