China Open: Liam PITCHFORD beats Hugo CALDERANO

Seamaster 2018 ITTF World Tour Platinum Kaisa China Open

 

Actual World No. 58 Liam PITCHFORD from England beat No. 11 Hugo CALDERANO in five games 4:1 (11:9 11:7 13:11 10:12 11:6) to reach Round of 16 at the Seamaster 2018 ITTF World Tour Platinum Kaisa China Open. Current European champion Emmanuel LEBESSON (France) overcame actual African champion Egypt`s Omar ASSAR 4:1 (9:11 11:9 11:4 11:8 11:3) to set the clash with World No. 1 and top seed FAN Zhendong from China.

 

Austrian Robert GARDOS won first two games against Hong Kong`s WONG Chung Ting but World No. 7 responded by four sets in a row – 4:2 (7:11 8:11 11:9 11:6 11:7 11:7). Korea`s JANG Woojin (No. 40) prevailed against Portugal`s Marcos FREITAS (No. 15) 4:1 (11:6 12:14 11:3 11:6 11:7).

 

Second seed Timo BOLL from Germany did his job against young Slovenian Darko JORGIC who managed to win one game.

 

Romania`s Ovidiu IONESCU and Spain`s Alvaro ROBLES secured their place in the Men`s Doubles semi-finals as they beat French pair Alexandre CASSIN/Emmanuel LEBESSON 3:1 (8:11 11:6 12:1011:7). They will face former World champions MA Long/XU Xin in their attempt to reach the ultimate stage.
