TTCLM Round 2: UMMC shows no mercy in Poland

The 2012 TTCLM runner-up UMMC made a huge step towards 2018/19 quarter-finals as they beat in straight games their strongest opponent in Group B: K.S. Dekorglass Dzialdowo – TTSC UMMC 0:3. Three more Round 2 games were held tonight October 12th: Stella Sport La Romagne – Walter Wels Dartom Bogoria – Saarbrucken 3:0 Hennebont – Fakel Gazprom

 

UMMC recorded its second win in straight games in Group B playing without Chinese FANG Bo while Dekorglass Dzialdowo couldn’t count on Hong Kong`s WONG Chun Ting. Actual World No. 90 Alexander SHIBAEV beat No. 60 WANG Yang in four sets of the opener winning ultimate game by a narrow margin. Jonathan GROTH and Andrej GACINA won their encounters in straight sets against Pawel FERTIKOWSKI and Jiri VRABLIK respectively.

 

The 21-year-old Marek BADOWSKI was Bogoria`s hero against Saarbrucken as he defeated current World No. 15 Patrick FRANZISKA after full five games. Poland`s player made his biggest step on the ITTF list last week jumping from No. 181 to No. 145. Pavel SIRUCEK (No. 79) also had a big contribution bearing in mind that he managed to conclude the match against World No. 45 Chinese Taipei`s LIAO Cheng Ting. Well experienced Greek Panagiotis GIONIS opened the clash by his win against rising star from Slovenia Darko JORGIC.

 

Four-time TTCLM winner Orenburg prevailed against Hennebont in straight wins but it wasn’t as easy as result is showing. Actual World No. 4 Dimitrij OVTCHAROV showed strong character against No. 23 Liam PITCHFORD in the second match reversing the score from 0:2 to 3:2. But this is not all! In each of last three games he was few points behind host but he refused to give up. Marcos FREITAS and Vladimir SAMSONOV beat FAN Sheng Peng and Cedric NUYTNICK respectively.

 

CHEN Tianyuan has provided two points for 2017 ETTU Cup winner Stella Sport La Romagne to seal victory against Walter Wels 3:1. Third point came from Daniel GORAK who was extended to full distance by Adam SZUDI in the third encounter.
