PG Mutual National Championships
Liam PITCHFORD won his fifth career men’s singles title and Maria TSAPTSINOS her first women’s singles trophy at the PG Mutual National Championships.
PITCHFORD defeated his Commonwealth Games gold medal-winning doubles partner Paul DRINKHALL 4-0 (11-6 11-4 12-10 13-11) in Nottingham the pair having earlier combined to overcome England team-mates Sam WALKER & David MCBEATH 3-0 (11-8 11-6 11-5) to win the men’s doubles for a sixth time.
Tsaptsinos upset top seed and fellow Commonwealth Games medallist Tin-Tin HO in the women’s singles final emerging victorious by a 4-2 (11-5 13-11 11-13 7-11 11-5 11-5) scoreline.
TSAPTSINOS & HO had earlier come from 2-0 down to beat Denise PAYET & Emily BOLTON 3-2 (8-11 8-11 11-3 11-5 11-5) to win the women’s doubles crown.
The Mixed Doubles was won by HO & Josh BENNETT beating Alim HIRJI & Emily BOLTON 3-1 (11-4 8-11 11-5 11-5) in the final.
HO and Tom JARVIS – the Team GB reserve at the Rio Olympics – were the women’s and men’s under-21 singles champions.
