Guernsey clinched gold at Island Games

Gibraltar 2019 NatWest International Island Games XVIII

 

Once every two years thousands of athletes from Scandinavia to the Mediterranean the North Atlantic to the Caribbean — come together to compete in the NatWest International Island Games. Gibraltar hosted this year’s 18thedition.

 

Crowned champions in team’s event is Guernsey. They overcame Jersey in the match for gold 4-2. Gotland and Greenland clinched bronze.

 

In the final in Men’s Singles Garry DODDprevailed against Luc MILLER(8-11 11-3 11- 4 11-8) Lawrence STACEYlost to Jordan Luke WYKES(7-11 14-16 5-11) DODD lost to WYKEStoo (11-8 9-11 3-11 13-11 7-11). In Ladies’ Singles Dawn MORGANbeat Karen Lynn LEFEBVRE(13-11 12-10 11-9) in Ladies’ Doubles Paula Le BERand Dawn MORGANovercame Karen Lynn LEFEBVRE and Irene Chloe BREE(11-7 11-4 11-8) whilst in Mixed Doubles Dawn MORGAN and Garry DODD overcame Jordan Luke WYKESand Karen Lynn LEFEBVRE(11-4 11-6 11-8).

 

In the semi final Guernsey overcame Gotland 4-1. In Men’s Singles matches Lawrence STACEY beat Max HEDBOM (5-11 11-5 7-11 11-5 11-5) Garry DODD prevailed against Marcus JRFJORD (11-9 11-5 5-11 11-9) and DODD beat HEDBOM (3-11 11-6 11-9 4-11 11-9). In Ladies’ Singles Dawn MORGAN overcame Evelina CARLSSON (7-11 11-7 15-13 11-3) whilst in Ladies’ Doubles MORGAN and Paula Le BER suffered by the hands of CARLSSON and Elin SCHWARTZ (11-9 7-11 16-18 9-11).

 

Second finalist Jersey was forced to go full distance against Greenland 4-3. In Men’s Singles

Luc MILLER lost against Ivik NIELSEN (3-11 8-11 9-11) Jordan Luke WYKES beat AqqaluNIELSEN (11-4 11-3 8-11 11-1) Jordan Luke WYKESovercame Ivik Nielsen (11-9 9-11 5-11 11-9 11-8) Luc MILLERovercame Aqqalu NIELSEN(11-8 11-7 11-5). In Ladies’ Singles Karen Lynn LEFEBVREbeat Pipaluk SERUBABELSEN(11-3 11-3 13-11) in Ladies’ Doubles LEFEBVREand Irene Chloe BREElost to SERUBABELSENand Karlinannguaq LUNDBAD (8-11 14-12 3-11 5-11).
