Germany “reserved” two places at the medal rostrum

On the final day at the 2021 GAZPROM European Under 21 Championships in Spa tomorrow we will see the clashes between Mariia TAILAKOVA of Russia and Andreea DRAGOMAN of Romania in one semi final and in other in all-German clash Franziska SCHREINER will play against Annett KAUFMANN.

In the quarterfinal top seeded Mariia TAILAKOVA of Russia beat Katarzyna WEGRZYN of Poland in five games (0:11 11:5 11:7 15:13 11:9) whilst without any difficulties Andreea DRAGOMAN of Romania overcame Ema LABOSOVA of Slovakia (12:10 11:6 11:7 11:3).

Annett KAUFMANN was under pressure in the match against Camille LUTZ of France but Germany’s player responded without due alarm (8:11 12:10 11:4 7:11 11:7 11:9). The match that brought most of the suspense was the one between Franziska SCHREINER and Elena ZAHARIA of Romania; it went full distance (11:8 11:13 11:8 11:13 11:8 5:11 11:8).

In the Round of 16 Mariia TAILAKOVA had also a slow start but from second game showed no mercy against Sabina SURJAN of Serbia (8:11 11:8 11:6 11:8 11:8).

No. 5 seed Jamila LAURENTI of Italy suffered by the hands of the no 9 seed Anna WEGRZYN 0:4 (10:12 5:11 8:11 3:11) whilst Andreea DRAGOMAN justified her status in the match against Kornelija RILISKYTE of Lithuania 4:1 (12:10 11:6 9:11 11:6 11:4).

Ema LABOSOVA of Slovakia overcame Lucie GAUTHIER of France 4:1 (11:9 17:15 9:11 12:10 11:4).

In the lower half of the draw two players from Germany progressed after the five games duels. Annett KAUFMANN beat Hana ARAPOVIC of Croatia (5:11 6:11 9:11 11:7 9:11) whilst Franziska SCHREINER prevailed against Katarzyna WEGRZYN of Poland (5:11 9:11 11:8 5:11 5:11). Elena ZAHARIA overcame Elizabet ABRAAMIAN of Russia (9:11 11:9 15:13 11:9 11:7) and in seven games dramatic duel Tania PLAIAN of Romania lost to Camille LUTZ (2:11 18:16 7:11 11:7 11:4 11:13 5:11).
